I just bought a 3 pack (4000, 2000, 1000 grit) on Ebay for $16.99 shipped. I received them over the weekend and quickly put 'em to use (they are great!).

Yep, the work great.  I have always ued them with a spinner, but I would assume you could also use them by hand...

They work great for all coverstock prep.  I also use mine on a spinner with a CAB block.

YES, you can dull a ball with the pads (whichever grit you choose) or you can use Scotchbrite pads as well
