Title: ABS or SST 7?
Post by: Turkey Roller on September 04, 2005, 02:25:46 PM
My SST 5 Classics are shot and am looking at the new SST 7's or the Dyna-Thane ABS.  I tried out the new SST 5 Comforts and hated them.  The base was too wide and felt like clown shoes.  I know the ABS are similar in style to classic but anyone know what the SST 7 is like on the base?  Closer to the SST 5 classic or SST 6 that no one seems to like.  If anyone has either of these a recommendation would be appreciated.

I'm also at a similar crossroads.  I like my sst6lx, but after only 2 years of use they have fallen apart.  My push off foot's toe has disintegrated, and my slide foot's velcro is also having problems.  Its either going to be the dynarooz abs or the sst7's.

I've seen posts that the ss7 have sliding issues and are hot.

I've not used the abs,  how do their slides and heels compare to those of Dexters.

SST7 are the ugliest high end bowling shoes I've ever seen. Man those are ugly.

The SST7's are also VERY heavy and VERY stiff OOB...

Very very happy with my ABS Tour Ultras.

I find the quality to be much higher as my SST5's and my 6's all fell apart after about a year.

With my Dexters I had to use the heals and soles that slid the most, or I wouldn't slide.  With my ABS shoes I can change to different soles and still be able to bowl.  It's like I can use a sole that's in the middle and slide, just not as much, like I think it should be.  With my Dexters I could never change to adjust to approach conditions, with my ABS ones I can.

The comfort is much better as I always felt like I could slip out of my Dexters.  On my ABS I am more secure.

I never want to go back to Dexters.

I'm into the third year with my SST's and I've had no problems with them falling apart!  But I also have several friends using the Tour Ultra's, and they love them, comfort-wise and slide-wise.  I'm saving up to try out a pair!

I went with the ABS tour ultras. I picked them up today and will be trying them out tomorrow.  I have been comparing them to my sst6lx's and the abs defintelty look and feel sturdier. I am intereted to see how their slides and heels compare.  I'll update after I try them out.

When I bought my sst6's 2 years ago I didn't think I would be buying another pair of shoes this soon.  My Dad has a pair of Linds customs as old as I am.  He sends them out every so often, and they come back like new.

BTW - MY proshop had the sst7's in stock.   They are even uglier in person than online.  I would have thought that dexter could have fixed the problems that people were having with their other shoes by creating something similiar in looks to the sst6lx.

I have had the 3 pair of Dexters from the SST-6 (Original Peacock Green/Grey) to the SST-6LX and a pair of SST-1's all over a 5 year period. Then I was in Las Vegas and inadvetently left my shoe bag at home and needed shoes and the pro shop only had my size in the Dynorooz ABS Tour Delux (Black/Gold). I bought them and later the new leather soles/heels and my brand new SST-6's sat in the bag until I gave them to my son recently. I recently purchased a new pair of Tour Ultras as the shoelace areasa of the old tour deluxes were like fabric and tore. However, they lasted much longer and the comfort and performance of even the deluxes were above the SST's. The tour ultras are even better.
