Accelerometer for Bowling Ball
« on: May 08, 2015, 01:48:23 PM »
I would love to see an in-ball mini device that measures ball velocity and rotation during each ball phase (skid, hook, roll) and could send the data to an app in real time.  It would need to be able to accept some initial parameters (such as total ball weight after drilling) too.  Is there such a device out there in use?

I saw this document co-authored by Ron Hickland but I've seen no ball company make use of this technology:

Seems like it would be easy enough actually. It could fit in the bottom of the thumb, maybe in a thumb slug like an IT or Switch Grip. Have an App on your phone and it could down load the data after each throw.

Just have to find a 3 axis accelerometer small enough to fit in there, but that should be no problem. The programming of the App would be pretty straight forward.

Heres a sample Ron Hickland posted on facebook from January where they were trying it on some collegiate bowlers (this was the one with the highest rev rate).

Accord to Mo, It's NOT ready yet! And Hickland is gone. Plus He heard it only works with zero to low flaring situations. Not the real world in bowling today.

Not the real world in bowling today? I guess it must be a POS then :'(

I wondered if anyone would twig. Would have been cool if it was real.
