Ball Cleaner Showdown: That Purple Stuff VS Monster Tac
« on: January 06, 2016, 12:37:09 AM »
Here's a another of my Ball cleaner showdowns:  That Purple Stuff VS Bowlingball.com's Monster Tac

(Note: I used a different camera for the monster tac pic, lighting color temperature is different too, thus why the towel color looks different)

I used the same ball (Hammer Bad Ass with a fresh 2000 abralon surface, de-oiled and cleaned) on fresh condition both times, Clean towel.

The Monster Tac test

That Purple Stuff test

(also note: since these were different lanes levels of grime could be different which could affect what there was to take off)

Well this is a close call and gets down into some nitpicky details. Comparing the other pics I have and what I seen first hand.

1-Both cleaners removed surface oil, I think TPS might have broke it down slightly faster it's a close call.

2-Both cleaners left the ball tacky, but I felt TPS left it just a little bit tackier.

3-At the end of the first game the TPS towel was slightly dirtier than the M.Tac towel.
At the end of the second game the TPS towel was still slightly dirtier than the M.Tac towel.
But by the end of the of evening, Both cleaners appeared to have taken off about the same amounts of grime.

4-Neither cleaner removed the oil lines in the cover. Though at close examination of the oil lines left by Monster Tac, They were a bit shinier than the ones left by TPS. Which to me means that TPS did penetrate the pores a little bit more. (Which was one of Ron's claims, that it cleaned the pores some.

5-Monster Tac I felt dried up fast on the micro fiber towel, I had to keep spraying some more on. TPS kind of stayed damper longer slightly. Now Ron's micro fiber pad with the sponge material in it might make a difference here.

6-At home I took a white paper towel and put some Purple Stuff on it and cleaned the Bad Ass with it to see if any grime was left by the Monster Tac. None was found, paper towel was still white.

So which is better? Hmmm, Tough call. I think "That Purple Stuff " is a little bit better, it left the ball slightly tackier than Monster tack.

Is it enough to justify price?
If both were equally priced, I'd get "That Purple Stuff ". Because IMO it has a "slight" edge.

If Monster Tac is cheaper at the time you want to get some cleaner (It depends on when and how much you buy), If You want to save money Monster Tac would be okay.

I wouldn't feel bad about using Monster Tac, it's surprisingly better than a lot of cleaners I tried before. For a generic ball cleaner.

If I can get one of Ron's pads (Which I think are a bit over priced) or the towels like Laneside used to try TPS with, I might change my opinion if it makes a difference.

Extra: here's a pic of where I cleaned another bowlers ball with That Purple Stuff (a different towel than I used on mine) at the start of the night! He hadn't cleaned his ball.

He was surprised how dirty it was.

Note: Regardless of the cleaner used, cleaning the ball every frame. The ball did seem to be more consistent in it's reaction.

Is the LMB cleaner the same or similar to the the Lane Masters cleaner?

Just wondering....
I assumed that they were/are the same? :o

The Lane Masters name has been purchased by California Bowling which is making Lane Masters balls again. (They also import Lord Field balls.) The cleaner was not part of the purchase.

The cleaner is now being marketed under the name "LMB International". The only one selling it, as far as I know right now, is Buddies pro shop. The original cleaner was not approved for use during bowling. Their new cleaner is called "LMB International Extreme High Performance Bowling Ball cleaner" and is approved for use DURING bowling. The Extreme version has a much less pronounced aroma/fragrance but is just as strong. I recently purchased the new product from Buddies. Right now, 1/7/16, they are out of stock, but I'd be surprised if they don't have more on order.

Charlest,

What is the strength difference between the above and this?

I have not tried the water-based cleaner; so, I cannot say.
I have tried their regular I-Tack and found their regular cleaner, the one I mentioned above, much better. Their regular cleaner is alcohol-based (not isopropyl/household alcohol).

I bought MonsterTac for the first time this year and honestly think that it's the best cleaner I've used so far. It seems to remove all of the scuffs and belt marks with ease and leaves the ball feeling super tacky. I haven't tried That Purple Stuff yet, but I don't know how much cleaner I can get my balls. Sorry, that just sounds way too funny!

Why? No woman likes a man with dirty balls.
(I can't believe I said that with a straight face. Heck, I can't believe I said that.)

What's amazing is the Charlest posted in a Ball Cleaner thread and cracked a joke and not his usually well thought out detailed information about the cleaners that we all love to read about.....I was waiting for him on this one and I guess I am still waiting!

I've already posted my thoughts about The Purple Stuff and I have no experience with Monster-Tac. If you want to send me a bottle to test, I'll be glad to do it. I've spent enough on all these "Pretenders to the Crown". Nothing compares to LMB Cleaner for during and immediately after bowling. NOTHING.

Buddie's has three LMB cleaners.
LMB International I-Tack (tan/yellow color)
LMB International High Performance Cleaner (blue color)
LMB International Water Based with Instant Tack (tan/yellow color)

Charlest, I did not see the word Extreme that you mentioned in the description name for the blue cleaner.  But, I take it you were referring to this cleaner (blue) and not the LMB International I-Tack (tan/yellow color).
I want to make sure I order the right cleaner based on your experience.

This is all in reference to the one you call "blue". Both versions I have are tinted light blue.

Yes, when I went to check on that web page a few days ago and learned they were out of stock, I was surprised to see the old label. I don't know how Buddies operates their web page procedures. Previously I had ordered the new version, which uses the word "Extreme" in the label. If you look at the USBC approved cleaners (DURING),you will see that it is the "Extreme High Performance ball cleaner" which is approved for use during bowling. I believe the old one, the one apparently being displayed on Buddies web page, was not submitted for approval.

I ordered mine on 11/23/15 and while the order form (receipt) says
"LMB International High Performance Bowling Ball Cleaner - 32oz",
the label on the bottle I received has on it:
"BALL CLEANER, EXTREME High Performance Cleaner, LMB International"
"Made in USA by LMB International"
"USBC approved for use anytime"

While I cannot guarantee what Buddies will do about anything ( :) ), I'm about 99 44/100% sure that, if you order LMB International High Performance Bowling Ball Cleaner - 32oz when it is back in stock, you will get the approved Extreme version.

Charlest,
Thank you for your reply.  Your knowledge of ball cleaners and polishes is phenomenal.
If it is not a bother, I would like to ask another question.  I finally used up all my Brunswick Factory Finish High Gloss Polish which had a kind of creamy liquid texture to it.
I ordered the replacement Brunswick Royal Shine Polish and it is like white water.  I thought maybe it settled, but I stirred it and the whole bottle is like white water.
Did I get a bad bottle or is this the new so called texture for the Royal Shine Polish?
Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the original post.
