Breaking Down a Rubber Heel

I have an old Rubber Dexter heel that is Green White and Red. I see they don't make it anymore. It has been worn down over time and works great. But the Velcro is decaying and won't stay on anymore. I have another of the same sole and have tried breaking it down like my old one to no avail. Does anybody have any tips for breaking down a rubber heel to a nice slide or should I breakdown and buy a H5 which is grey, white and red?

I have tried the felt heel and never liked it, was too much slide without any brakes. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I really don't understand breaking down the heel. Are you talking about breaking in the heel? If the Velcro is messed up, you need to replace the heel. If you don't the Velcro might fail and not even hold on to a new one. There are so many variables in the match up of the soles and heels. Your style of bowling usually determines the amount of slide you want. The stroker wants more slide than the power players.
Looks like you want some slide with the H5 that you now have. Dexter has a new H6 Leading edge that has removable strips which gives you a choice of slow, medium and fast strips to control the amount of slide on the heel. I noticed Bowlingball.com has this heel in stock or check it out on the Dexter site.
