Genesis pad updates?
« on: March 12, 2018, 10:21:32 PM »
In general I love my Genesis pad, but it's been about 4-5 months now and I've washed it 2-3 times. Each time I get the feeling it's a bit weaker and really feel it's time to replace it. Anyone else finding that the pads only tolerate X number of washes before it's time to just buy a new one? Minimal investment in my view...
I clean with a bit of Dawn and a good scrub brush. Also, I find the brown side of mine to be better absorbing than the gray.....
Thoughts/feedback?

The brown sides are the sides that are meant to be used, there was a genesis video on YouTube where they demonstrated using the pad. I think most of you problem comes from washing it with dawn, I believe the dawn strips the leather of its natural oils that keeps it soft.  I have 2 pads and the original one I washed a few times with dawn and the other I have only cleaned it with hand soap or shoe cleaner and it is very close to being like new while the one I used dawn on is more stiff.

Read the back of the card/pkg the Genesis came in. it says 'mild hand soap & hot water, as hot as you can safely stand....." They use Dawn to get the oil off birds & such in tanker spills. It is a bit too strong & as mentioned will strip the natural oils from the hide. HOT water is the key to getting the lane oils off the pad. Done 2 here that way & after drying & brushing, just like new!

I believe The problem is your using the gray side instead of the brown side.

This is what I use for mine which I wash by hand.  Cleans great, one can lasts a long time and won't damage the leather.

Hand bar soap and brush works fine for me with no issues.  Had mine for a year and used after lots of games.
