Rubber adhesive for SST 8 Toe guard
« on: September 06, 2012, 11:52:44 PM »
Has anyone used this to glue the edge of the toe guard back to the shoe?  Mine is beginning to separate after four months of use and I wrote to Dexter and it was stated that I have an aggresive style or I have been swinging my foot behind my back, and gave me a link to toe guard.  I responded by stating that this is my slide shoe and I have a pair of SST 6 that have little wear in the same spot and I sent pictures to make sure customer service understood what I was describing.

The initial response did not inspire any confidence in them and I willing to take my chances with glue before letting them have the shoe.

The email response from Dexter is to glue or trim the piece that's coming off.

Yea. I have a pair of 8's and I drag my no slide foot. I have the same problem. I have glued the sole on and it still comes lose.

What a pain. My 7s never did this. I may go back to using them.  I guess I need to wrire dexter and complain. I do not see SST 9s in my future.

Try contact cement. It's not easy to work with but once together, few things come apart.

Also Loctite makes a number of excellent adhesives. I used their Power Grab, a construction adhesive for a problem similar to yours with my 3G soles. Power Grab seems to stay flexible and has stayed in place. I also use Loctite's Vinyl, Fabric and Plastic adhesive on several things and it also works well.

I find Loctite products in the glue section of Home Depot and Lowe's

It does no good to complain to Dexter. They have the absolute worst customer
service on the planet. They always make the excuse it is something you did
and will never take the blame for bad design or defect.

I've never had any issues dealing with Dexter's Customer Service, I have been dealing with them for over 20 years and continue to use and support their product to this day.

"Shoe Goo" is an effective product for repairing all types of rubber soles.  I've seen it at K-Mart, Wal-Mart and Walgreens in my area.

I tried shoe goo A while ago and it sort of worked.  Over time it seemed to lose the adhesive ness and the material began to separate again.

This is a little off subject, but I am in the market for a new pair of shoes.I seem to see a lot of issues w/SST-8's listed on this site.My question is, are the Dexters worth purchasing, or is there a better option available?

Except for that little piece separating the shoes are holding up well.  Some of the color comes off when it's rubbed too hard when I was trying to clean them.  They are wide and provide good stability.  I bought a second pair when they were being closed out at buddies fr a good price.

The edge of the rubber toe guard on my SST8's finally started to separate after 600+ games. I applied a little super glue yesterday, and it stuck well. No issues after 7 games of practice this morning.

As far as SST8 durability, I've had good luck with mine. Those I bowl with who use SST8's seem to have good experiences with theirs too. If you're a major toe dragger, I could see where problems can develop. It just depends on how hard you're generally on shoes.
