Sales tax is one reason. In CA, that adds $18 to the price. Of course, depending on which online source I purchase from(I.E. Bowlers Paradise), I will still get charged California sales tax. However, if I buy through Buddies Pro Shop, no sales tax and in effect an $18 discount.

In Pennsylvania, you still have to pay Sales Tax on Internet Purchases if not assessed at the time of purchase. It is reported on your income tax return as a Use Tax and added to your tax liability.  Maybe I am one of those rare people, but I actually report the use tax each year for online purchases I made that were not taxed but would have been if I purchased locally.

California has the same thing:  http://www.boe.ca.gov/ads/news06.htm

So trying to save having to pay sales tax is kind of a moot point if you have to pay it anyway.

Like Nails said, if your local pro shop is good, they should be competitive and give you customer service. People like you are the first that go into a local shop and complain about how the ball you bought online does not fit properly or the shoes are not the right size, but hey you save a buck!

I'll start reporting it when California finds a way to prove I bought it. Until then, I'll keep my money.
