Columbia/Track/Hammer Stackable 4-Ball Rollers
« on: July 01, 2009, 02:17:30 PM »
I've been looking at the newer stackable 4-ball bags from these companies and plan on getting one of them next month. I've read on bowlingballs.com that most of the problems on these bags was that the balls on the bottom compartment tends to roll around and shift to the front, causing the bag to tilt and sometimes fall over. I thought that there's some of strap that holds them together, kind of like in the Track 2-Ball rollers. For those who have the newer rollers have you had this sort of issue?

Ive had my storm 4 ball bag for 6-7 seasons and its worked like a champ, nothing wrong with it, its the only success ive had with storm (since there bowling balls dont work for me)

i still use it and until it breaks, its doing its job lol

I'd go for the Storm/Roto 4 ball stack or KR/Brunswick "premium" stack just for the longer warranties. The Columbia/Ebonite/Hammer/Track stackables are basically the same except for the top detachable bag, but I've seen 2 different durability results so far.

A buddy of mine has the Track bag, and has let me borrow if a couple of times since I was interested in getting one for myself. Felt sturdy, and the bowling balls in the bottom section didn't seem to roll forward and make the bag want to tip over when I had it standing up. I imagine that it might happen if the lower section were empty and the top bag were full, but I try that, so I'll never know.

My cousin had the Ebonite Grand Tour bag, and the left wheel came off twice. He never went up or down a sidewalk unless there was an inclined ramp, Never tried to pull it through a tight space or in a position where the wheel would rub of scrape against anything. Loading and unloading took a few minutes because he was careful to lay the bag down and not just drop it. Our shop guy sent for repair parts the 1st time, and the 2nd time he just replaced it outright with the Columbia version since my cousin's bag was barely 3 months old.

Every bag I've owned has had some type of design flaw.  I'm currently using Ebonite's TranSport IV.  It's a stackable 4 ball carrier.  One of the best I've owned, but does have a few flaws.

Positives:  Compact, locking/unlocking system for top bag is best I've seen, very light, durable wheels.

Negatives: balls in bottom compartment can roll forward making bag prone to tip over if no balls in top compartment, if the handle slips out of your hand while rolling it the extendable handle won't work properly any more.

The Storm bag is awsome. I have had mine for 7 plus years and pulled it up and down many stairs, The only trouble I had was the locking handle sometimes wouldnt stay locked. My brother has the Brunswick bag which is also a good bag but it takes up a lot more space when packing it into your trunk.

I've had the KR 4 ball roller for a number of years. No functional problems at all. However, on the inside of both bags there is a sewn edge where the plastic meets the fabric and this sewn edge is sharp, like a saw blade. I got a number of balls scratched up pretty badly before I figured out what caused it. I put some rubber insulating strips on top of the "Zipper" stitching and always use "buff a balls" on each ball.

I wrote KR a snotty note about this design flaw and never heard a word from them.

Were I to buy a new 4 ball roller, I would definitely check the interior for this flaw. Perhaps they have corrected it by now.

By the way, KR builds the bags for a number of companies.
