Title: Converting Street Shoes to Bowling Shoes...?

Anyone have any experience doing this? I remember at a pro-am a couple of years ago, Lonnie Waliczek had a pair of regular shoes that Dexter had converted for him.
What would be involved in this? Could a regular shoe repair guy do it?
