Here is the size range for heel replacement from Dexter:
LARGE: Men's 6.5-15 and Women's 8.5-11.
SMALL: Women's 5-11 and Men's 6.5-9.

pat not saying you are incorrect, but double check the sizes, I just went through this with trying to find a replacement heel for my dexter sst6 lx(size 11m).. a young lady straight from the dexter customer service line told me for the mens heel "small" is 6-10.5, and "large" 11-15.. the small is actually 1/4" smaller in width and height all the way around the heel.. I ordered 11M and was sent a 10.5(10.5 was stamped on the black velcro side in white ink) and it was too small for my shoe.. had to send it back for a refund, just double check before you order.. slashrr69

I wear size 13 Dexter SST7s. I ordered size large heel and it is WAY too big. I have dealt with heels that are a little bigger before and i just offset them a little bit to the left (I'm right handed) and every thing is fine. But when I offset this new heel it sticks out almost 3/4" out the left side of the shoe. I feel like I am walking around with half a snow shoe on. Has anyone trimmed down one of the heels before? If so what is the recommended way of doing it?

yes, you are suppose to trim them down.. you take your shoe and place it on the new heel.. trace the shoe heel to the new heel and cut with a pair of tinsnip scissors(must be tinsnips or you will not cut through the material correctly).. when cutting make sure to stay to the outside of the traced line, this will make sure the heel stays wide enough for your shoe.. you can use a soft buffing wheel to smooth out the rougher edges when finished..

I suppose I am guilty of the same, I had no idea the heels where intended to be trimmed...

I know you are SUPPOSED to trim them. I am asking how. The heels that were a little big before were only like 1/8 inch over hang so it was no big deal and it didn't make sense to trim them. Now I have to trim it and I am wondering what the best way to do it is.

I now know why SO many people hate this discussion board. If you don't like the question posted PLEASE do not respond to it. Scissors??? Wow that NEVER crossed my mind (sarcasm). I personally think the heel is too thick for scissors. But "obviously" they are the BEST option for cutting the heels so hey, thanks for answer.

I've found using a power grinding wheel works the best for me. You still copy one of the original factory heels dimensions to the new heel and then put it to the grinder. The results are much more accurate than using a scissors....

they recommend using "tinsnips" as I stated up above.. then buff out with a soft buffing wheel to smooth the edges.. as "eleftcoast' suggested using a small grind/cutting wheel might work as well..

Hey StormBowler83, are you sure you know that he's talking about trimming a HEEL and not a SOLE because it is obvious to trim a SOLE with scissors but it is NOT obvious to trim a HEEL with scissors. Maybe it's possible you got confused in what he was asking about.

Thank you SegaMan... Let's do a little more clearing up just to make sure we are all on the same page. The HEEL is the back part of the shoe, normally made of HARD rubber.

Cutting wheel, band saw, jig saw, saw-saw, or electric shears work, tried all of above and just smooth out edges. Yes some people use scissors, would recommend the industrial grade (large) as its easier to use.
