Dexter SST 5 Sport (and maybe others) - velcro system issues
« on: November 20, 2007, 12:59:18 AM »
Just a general question for all Dexter shoes users: I have a pair of SST5 Sports and recently found that 2 soles just do not cling anymore, while others (still) stick pretty well. I am not sure where the problem lies - at first I thought the hook side on the shoes was the problem, but since some soles (S8, S10) adhere well and only my S7 and an older S8 tend to fall off, I am puzzled.

Could it be that:
a) the soft cloth on the soles easily wears off with frequent change of soles?
b) Do some (newer) soles have a finer cloth to them that does not stick so well to older shoes?

In my pro shop I was told that there had been a change in the velcro system with the introduction of the SST7 1 or 2 years ago, and that some newer soles were rather meant for these shoes, even though still compatible with the older and probably rougher/bigger velcro system.

Does anyone know something about this, or observed a similar problem?
Thanks in advance

I have had SST7 for 9 months. No Problemo, other than that the shoe leather stretches a bit much.

Had the same problems with my SST6LX's. Just sew some new velcro to the soles that wouldn't stick anymore. Problem solved.

I beleive Dexters have a 3 year warranty, so maybe you can get them replaced.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions! I am not sure if the shoes are really worn - even though I considered to take them to a shoemaker and have some new and fine velcro glued/stitched to the bottom.

Replacement will be difficlut, though, because the SST5 Sports were not available here in Germany and a friend brought them for me from a business trip from a local shop in the US. I have no bill or something alike, and the postage etc. to ship the stuff to the US is prohibitive - it would be easier to check for a new pair of shoes.

Nevertheless, I like the SST5 Sports, because they fit very well to my longer and slender feet - that's why I specifically setlled on them. They are overall still in good shape, after 2 years of constant use. Just the loose sole problem recently occured and became even dangerous (lost a S7 just during my delivery, just before the slide...). Well, I have to replace the S7 anyway, I think, and I will check if the new soles sticks better. At least it will give me a hint whether it is a sole problem or a problem with the velcro area under the shoe.

Thnaks a lot, if anyone has additional experience or repairs in this direction, please post them

I have the SST 5 Sport shoes 2 years old and have purchased numerous sole sheets and heels and had no problems with the velcro also had my shoe repair  shop owner make a few custom soles/heels for me and no issues with them either. I really like the fit and performance of these shoes and have just purchased another pair so I have a back up if anything happens to the original pair.

Hi Dizzy, youre not alone.

I have had a similar problem with my SST 6LX's. The hook side on the base of my shoe has lost some of its gripping power.

They are about 3 years old or more. They still grip but if you catch your toe on the approach etc. the sole comes off. Havnt found anything to sort them out so I cant help you though.

Like you though Ive found newer soles do stick better.
