Dexter SST 8 vs Linds Wedge slide sole
« on: September 19, 2014, 02:23:50 PM »
I recently purchased a pair of SST8 Black/Gold to replace my aging and worn Linds Wedges. Anyway I used them for the first time in league last night and noticed it was hard to get a decent slide using the standard S8 and H5 without the aid of easy slide and a wire brush. The approaches weren't sticky since I got a good slide with my Linds. Is there a break in period for the soles on the Dexter's? I only ask because I had good slide out of the box when I first bought my Linds. I plan to try the S10 pad to see if it gives me a slide similar to the buckskin sole on my Linds before I give them another try on league night next week.

Also, has Dexter corrected a defect that I've heard about the SST8's breaking in half due to a lack of flexibility in the sole or something? Thanks!

Not familiar with the Linds, but I wore my new sst8's for the first time last night.  Very little break in issues.  By about the 6th frame they already felt pretty good.
I slide quite a bit, so for me, i use the Red H7 heel.  Only took 3 - 4 shots to get the desired slide.  You may give that a try over the H5 heel.

The S10 sole is VERY slick when you first start using it. There is an S9 sole that works better, it's a combination of the S8 and S10. If you get the blank, you can cut it to have more or less slide depending on which side you have on the toe end.

No idea on most of your questions.

I didn't really like my SST8s.  Fit good, but were stiff.  Seemed rugged and well constructed I hope someone else loves them.  Blue SST 8 SEs.
Hated the toe guard.

Now I have the Brunswick TPUs.  A love affair is developing.  Great fit(I'm a lefty wide!) try finding that!  I also recently purchased from Bowlingball.com a real buckskin leather slider which is the real thing!  LEATHER!  This is the intention of the Synthetic SST8.  For many just fine but for me....pure Crap!

I am having a love affair after suffering for 4 or 5 years since someone stole the push off foot on my SST6s when I turned my back for a second.  REALLY!

Brunswick TPUs and Buckskin leather.  Oh my, almost bowling as good as with my old SST5s lefty WIDE!

Thank you Brunswick shoes thank you bowlingball.com

LuckyLefty, I agree the SST8's fit good but are very stiff. I too had a pair of tan/white SST5's since it was the only color us lefties could get in that shoe before trying a pair of Linds. I loved those. I went with Linds cause they offered shoes in a 9.5 wide width. Not many companies offer lefty shoes in wide widths these days. I noticed the SST8's offered a wide width so I went with them. I guess I'll take a wait and see approach to see if I end up liking them or not. If not, I can always give those Brunswick TPU X's a try!

Thanks for all the input guys!

JP,

Same as to the SST5s in cream!  I would buy 3 pair, but I might be starting to feel the same way regarding the TPUs.

How were the Linds?  Many love those also!

I found my Linds Wedge's very comfortable and durable. The only downfall was the sole and heel weren't interchangeable but that didn't bother me much. I loved the buckskin sole which gave me a good consistent slide. Unfortunately they are discontinued which is why I turned to Dexter. Ah well
