Disappointing Dexter SST 7
« on: January 23, 2008, 01:54:09 AM »
Purchased the shoe around January 2007. On November 2007 the sole and heel don't stick anymore. I play 2 league every week in 2 different centers, so I change sole & heel  2 times a week at least. This is very disappointing, its a good shoe design, feel but poor quality finish.

I have email them but still no reply. There are no pro shops here that sell sole only for it.
I always love Dexter, I just hope it wont be the last dexter shoe I got. Oh well...

that's what happens with velcro, not uncommon at all. its the exact reason they sell replacement soles and heels.

it has absolutely nothing to do with "finish quality"...dexter doesnt make the velcro. the velcro wears out every time you change soles and heels, thats why i usually have 2 of the heels/soles i use most.

bowling.com sells replacement soles and heels. they're a little pricey considering the initial cost of the shoes but they're worth it, obviously.

I think they were like 12 bucks each. Definitely high if you consider that you get about 8 with the shoe. At twelve bucks if you wanted to replace all of them you would have 96 bucks in soles. They are overpriced, but a must have when you wear them out.

My Dexters split through the sole, right behind the slide pad on both feet. They were about 1 year old, and I had no recipt for when I bought them at Dick's.
I called Dexter to see what they would do to help me out. After explaining what was going on, they said they would see what they could do. They called me back the very next morning to get my address and confirm my shoe size. Then they mailed me a UPS label to ship the old shoes back after I recieve the new shoes. The new,and better designed, shoes showed up at my door a few days lated. Never had to miss a game, or spend a cent.

Their customer service is top notch in my book.

i glad your experience with dexters customer service was good steve. however, mine was far from it. after 3 phone calls and messages left i e-mailed dexter 3 times before they gave me the name of the regional rep in my area. i called him 5 times with no answer or answering service. i proceeded to e-mail him and gave up after 2 of those attempts. this all occured in a period of two months. after this experience i'll never even consider buying a pair of dexter shoes.

I can't complain about the quality of the shoe. It is well made with good leather and mine have shown no wear problems.

They do stretch a little bit after break-in like all leather shoes. All-in-all, they are a solid pair of shoes and for the money, I bet they are hard to beat.

How much are 3G Tour Ultras???

when it comes to money you get what you pay for. bowling.com has the 3G tour ultra's for $136.99  the tour ultra's are made from kangaroo leather which is at least 5 times as strong as cowhide and far more supple. the uppers are glued and stitched to the soles( a sign of quality construction ). as someone who wore dexters for 10 years i can attest that the 3G tour ultra's are superior.

It's been a few years, but I had a pair of SST4 when they first came out, and because of the drag of my toe on my non sliding shoe when I slide I had worn through the rubber after about 3 months of use.  I called up Dexter explained the problem and they switched the shoes free of charge, and shipping on them.  From then on I have always worn Dexter.
