Title: good wrist support for beginner hook
Post by: MrBungle on January 29, 2007, 10:43:37 AM
Hey guys. I'm looking for what would be a good wrist support to keep my wrist in a good position for hook potential. I see so many and am just clueless. Thanks

IMHO, The Moro supports are the best, I've tried the types w/ the extended finger(index) and more than likely you will begin to develop bad habits like coming around the ball or dropping the ball. The Moro comes in two styles regular length(knuckle) and extended(all fingers). It is the most comfortable and durable of the lot. I've had mine for 4years and it's going strong due to the fact it has the least moving parts of the fully adjustable supports, besides if you wear out parts it's rebuildable, pads, straps and buckle.

My personal first choice for customers is the Mongoose Wrist positioner line. IMHO, they are the best fitting, most comfortable, and least hindering wrist positioners on the market and have been for years. The Ebonite Striker wrist positioner is very similar.

thanks everyone. A lot of these supporters look like bionic arms haha. I just can't see something that big on my wrist. Guess i'll have to get used to it.

Some aren't really that bad.  The Moro support, particularly the non-extended version, is not terribly big.  The Cobra ones that I've seen aren't that bad either.  Some are pretty large and intimidating, especially if you've got smaller hands.

One thing you need to be aware of is that you may have to get your equipment adjusted slightly.  Almost certainly if you go with one of the glove-type supports like the Columbia or Master ones.  They can affect your span by raising your hand off the surface of the ball.  It may not be a big change, but could be important.  If you're getting a new ball drilled and you intend to use the support basically full-time, it's worthwhile to get fitted with the support on.

I've used 3 different types of wrist supports..
1.Mongoose Lifter
2.Robys Rev III
3.Bull Dog w/interchangeble extensions

I've found the Bull Dog to be the lightest, and very comfortable too.. Of the 3,the Bull Dog is my favorite, next would be the Mongoose, Roby's Revs I could never get used to it..
Good luck

Dang. I never thought of that Shelley. That makes sense. Good advice.

I have tried Pro-Release, Columbia, and Mongoose Lifter. The Mongoose Lifter gets my vote.

I own or have owned the following.....

Moro Pro Release (The Extended One)
Robbys Gladitor
Mongoose Lifter
Robbys Revs II

My preference of how I like them is the order I have them listed above.

Ok I went to about 5 pro shops today an NOBODY has mongoose supports. They said they could order one for me only if I knew the size, but that was my whole purpose going to the pro shops. Kinda weird question but could the people who have used the mongoose lifter supports, is it possible to tell me the size you have and measurement of wrist? Any help would be great. Thanks

Run a tape measure around your forearm about 4" from the wrist. My forearm is 11" and the large Mongoos/Ebonite is a bit too tight on me.

Hope this helps.
