How Long Break-In on ABS Heels?
« on: November 06, 2003, 02:14:08 AM »
Question for ABS users.  How long does it take to break in the hard grey and normal white heels.  About how many games do you figure?

Is the grey supposed to be slicker than the regular white?

I realise that DT has come out with an adjustable pad for heels.  I prefer the regular heel but know it will take awhile to break in.  Linds were the same way years ago.  I used to shave the heel slightly.  But, the ABS heel seems already shaved a bit.

I am thinking of using Slide Stick/ski wax on heel.  That usually works.

Any ideas anyone on break in period and good way to break in?

Thanks,
Scott

I've been breaking mine in since the spring... I think the white is supposed to slide more than the grey, but I've found them very close.

I think they break in as fast as any Dexter heels I have, but I find the ABS heel more sensitive to humid conditions on synthetic and even some wood approaches.

I've added a slide guide in case you need to know which heels/soles slide more than the others.

Dyno-thane Shoes

Scroll to the bottom of the page.

Personally, it took all of a game for the heel's characteristics to kick in.  I bowl on old wood approaches though.  Maybe some scuffing up with a wire brush would help?  If you want to try something neat, I realy recommend getting the Adjust-A-Heel.  It's on the Spare Parts page and gives a different feel to your slide.  Worth looking into if you are interested in an alternative footing.

Thanks Tony.  Good addition to the Dyno-Thane website.  I am glad you are changing things on the site.  Sites get very stale with the same thing up week after week.

I have tried the flat grey and white to no avail have bowled 3 games on each and still stick on older slippery wood approaches.  I haven't even attempted synthetic.  I thought about the Adjust-a-Heel but am going to try as some others have by taking a Dexter red leather heel and cutting out tear drop and using that.  Some others i know have had success doing that.  I slide more on my whole foot heel and pad.

I believe ABS needs to work on developing more slide in their soles and heels.  I'll never use the ripple type soles.

scott, I have had my pair of ABS shoes for a few months and I really didn't need much time to break in a different sole or heel. I started out with the white flat heel and the deer skin (cream color) sole which is about the most neutral sole and heel. If you want a lot of slide you can go with the grey flat hard heel and the felt gray sole, this will give you maximum slide. Where I bowl on Friday nights I started with the white heel and deer skin sole and found out that I was getting to much slide still so during shadow balls I changed to the dimple heel and the oiled leather (brown color) sole. I threw a few shadow balls with the adjusted heel and sole and I really didn't have to allow for any break in period. They pretty much were what I wanted after about 10 minutes of shadow balls. I didn't stick to much or have any problems. You just need to experiment with your different heels and soles to find out what works best for you.

it took me about 30 or so games on mine to break them in....if you have any questions call DT directly and ask for Billy, he can assist you.
