Interchangable Thumb Slugs
« on: November 30, 2012, 02:40:56 PM »
I remember a couple years back when they first started being used. I also remember people having a lot of problems with them breaking, coming loose or just being sub par in general. But the basic principal still sounds so enticing. Has this been perfected over the past couple years?(I've been out of the game since 08ish.) Or did it just fall off and fade away? Anyone on here still use them? Maybe have praise for it or horror stories?

Same here since Vise came out with IT.  Superior to Turbo which I had used previously.  I have 3 different sized thumbs with 3/4" textured white tape in front and MC in back.  Driller has my thumbs ovaled.  Rather than screw around with tape I just change thumbs they fit all the equipment that I have.  Would never go back.  Driller actually can layout/dual angle and drill faster than laying out the old way.

Yep. I call my Proshop. Tell them what I want and how to drill. Pick it up and never think twice. Always feels the same. In the past it would be 45 mins of throwing ball and making thumb adjustments. My Proshop installed the first one  free to free up his future time  from working on my thumb. Lol

Fantastic! That's so very much what I was hoping to hear. I used to despise forcing myself to use the wrong equipment because I couldn't get the proper feel in the correct one. I think I'll definitely be giving these a shot!

I know many people with Turbo and Vise interchangeable systems with no issues. I have managed to break both systems even when installed correctly, but I find a way to break everything lol. I have since gotten away from using any interchangeable systems but would still recommend them to people that have issues getting a consistent feel with proper drilling and tape.

Ive been using and installing the IT system since it came out.  Ive had one slug break on me (the original one I drilled) but that was after about 3 years.  I've had one other customer had one break.

In my opinion that's a pretty good track record for the IT system.  While i've never used the Turbo system or the Grip Loc one, from what I hear the IT system may take longer to install but from what i've seen is well worth it.

I always had trouble duplicating my thumb and it hindered me from performing alot of times, since switching it truly has been amazing.

The magician,   At least I'm not the only one.    I used turbo switch grips for 3 weeks, and had the whole bottom locking mechanism snap off the slug while in my approach.  The idea of interchangeable thumbs is good, they just don't work for me

I couldn't live without the switch grip cause i just can't get used to using tape. However, i have broke IT 3 different ways and have had a slug come unglued from the switch inner since using turbo. I also lost a switch grip in the ball return. I have a guy i drilled for that snapped the bottom of the switch grip inner right off as well. Not trying to bash them because like i said i don't think i could go without them but they both have room for improvements....

Because they are easy to install and doesn't require a 700 dollar investment to start, I went with grip loc.

Had the chance to listen to WRW speak last year. He loves the Vise thumb slug but what was interesting is he didn't seem to care one way or the other on grips.
