Dexter's non slide shoe
« on: August 20, 2005, 05:19:59 AM »
I shot a nice series last night and only had 2 opens but one of them shouldn't have happened. I was playing an outside line and right after my second step I think I tripped over my own feet practicly and insted of thinking fast and stopping I continued with my shot and ende up ditching it. I thought about it why this happend cause it's a newbie mistake. I thought more and this has happend quite a few times with these shoes since I bought them over a year ago and I think it's cause of the sticky Goodyear rubber on the bottom. I'm trying to understand the point of it. For traction walking to the line? My last shoes were Linds and they have smooth hard leather on the bottom I belive and I never slipped. I do say I don't walk heel to toe and drage on purpose cause it helps me get down on my power shot. Has anyone had a problem with thier non slide Dexter shoe?

I like mine, but a guy that I bowl with hated that non-slide shoe. He has a shuffle step in his approach, and the shoe was so tacky that it would literally let out a big squeak whenever he'd move through his approach. He switched over to another company after a while. Personally, I don't have a problem with that shoe, but I know that others have. You're not alone.

When I get a good squeak out of my shoe I know it's going to be a good shot.  It's like a good hard push into the slide and everything comes together.

A couple of people in my house wear a slide sock on there non-slide shoe.  They said it kept them from sticking in there approach.

When selling lots of shoes i had the biggest problems when someone switched from Linds to Dexters due to sliding issues. Yes they put the softer durometer on there to help with traction. I know a lot of the people that have switched over especially guys with bigger revs tended to like the Dexters as they felt they had better leverage through the power step. Why they need it? Probably personnal preference. Since switching from Linds to Dexter/ABS I find that I can only use the Linds on the tackiest of approaches or I feel like Dorothy Hammill. Although you stated what you do to make yourself stay down, it doesn't make it the shoe's fault for the faulty shot. Not a demeaning statement just don't like blaming equipment for approach and delivery variation. Possible solution is to apply teflon tape to area's that you drag during the approach to lessen the coefficient of friction or try a slide sock.

I'm not totally complaining about the shoes because I love them. It's nice to have the selection of different soles and it's keeps a power player like me have repetetive shots. I really think the shoes have tremendously helped my bowling. It beats the overslide of the Linds and having to put 1 inch tape all over the heals so I wouldn't slip. I do drag my feet a little so I can stay down throughout the approach. I've never been big on the heal to toe thing and it's just what I'm comfortable with. It's just something I need to be cautious of.
