I had the same problem. Here's a solution that I know works because a few people have tried it and recommended it to me:
Use the horseshoe heel and put teflon tape (the clear stuff they sell in the pro shops) on the horseshoe tips. I use half a piece on each tip. Press it in pretty well so that there's little chance of the tape rolling up later.
Good luck!

I had the same problem, I just picked up the red replacement heel, it works well.

The red heel for me was like ice skating. So was the #10 sole. I found that only the #8 sole and #5 horseshoe heel with teflon tape worked for me - nothing else.

Agree with Walking E and jdhaze try the red heel if you slide heavily on your heel, The teflon tape works also, I prefer the heel change.

I too tried Dexters and could not slide. These were SST1 non-interchangeacle soles & heals. The shoes I wanted to replace were Linds Classics, so I purchases a new pair and everything was fine. Last pair lasted about 15 yrs.

Having used all manufacturers except etonic and sellings lots of Dex's over the years. If you go from Lind's, do not switch over until the the end of the season or just before the next season. They are apples and oranges on slide. It took me quite a while to get use to my Dexters after having classics with a ridged heel. You will get use to the dex's and for me they helped pick my ball speed up as i was able to get a better leg drive. Loved my Linds and still keep them for tacky approaches. Sorry they didn't work for you.

I have to agree with Leftyhi-trak. I was a Lind's user for about 5 years, and then last year I bought a pair of Dexter SST 6's. I was shocked at first how much less slide they had vs. the Lind's. What I do now is use the red (most slide) heel on my SST6's and I am fine on most approaches, unless they are slick. I am going to experiment with the teflon tape on the horseshoe heel to see what kind of slide that produces. I still carry my Lind's with me in my bag when I bowl tournaments in other houses just in case I can't find a heel/sole combo that works.
