Title: Need Advice with Tape
Post by: slitz22 on June 10, 2004, 08:56:53 PM
It seems I am having alot of trouble with tape staying in my thumb hole.  I go though 2 pieces every time I bowl because the tape keeps sliding up leaving the thumb hole very sticky.  Has this ever happened to anyone?  If so how did you remedy it??  Answers appriciated.

What brand are you using? Black or white?

I don't have too much trouble with this - only if I leave the tape in the thumbhole, in the car, on really hot days.

Try some "tape residue remover" pads - your pro shop should have them. Once you get all the crud out of the thumbhole, this problem might stop.

do you have thumb slugs or just drilled into the ball..if slugs, clean'em real good and then scuff'em a little with a sander...if you don't use slugs the balls will "sweat" and cause the tape not to stick, it's tuff to get the tape to stick without slugs. Plus heat and cold play a big part on keeping the tape in the hole, try and keep you stuff out of the heat.

You may have got a bad batch of black tape.  I got some Ebonite black tape with the opposite problem.  It's almost permanent.  Once you put it in, you have to chisel it out, even if you try later in the same game.
