Personal ball spinner
« on: February 22, 2012, 07:15:02 AM »
Looking to purchase a spinner, looking for opinions on the 1/2 horsepower Innovative personal ball spinner. Anyone have this, if so, how sturdy is it? How well does it work?
 Thanks!!

The 1/2 HP Innovative is the best personal spinner on the market.  You will love it!

+1 for  1/2 hp Innovative.   I have had mine for 6 months and love it.   Very sturdy and no complaints.

I narrowed my search down to Innovative and Vertex as well and choose Innovative after emailing John Jameson with a bunch of questions.  He was very responsive to me and a straight shooter with his answers.

Purchased a Vertex 1/2HP  about 7 years ago, and still going strong!

I second the vote for Vortex. I have had my 1/2 hp for 9 years and still going strong with zero issues at all.

Use the Vertex daily in the shop with no problems whatsoever. Innovative spinner is high quality as well. It really is only a question of price between those 2 in my opinion.

I bought the vertex 1/2 horse about 3 years ago and it still works ok. The only complaint I have is I cant put as much pressure on the ball as I used to without it slowing down. It still works but I have to be careful.

The Donkee doesn't get a lot of love on BR, but I've had mine for 8 years, and still going strong.

A good friend of mine just got an Innovative, and it's a nice spinner. But the difference in vibration is overblown, and I'd have a hard time going back to a single speed. I wouldn't hesitate to get another Donkee.

I had a donkee spinner before the Vertex and hated it. The low speed was useless to me and the vibration in mine was riduculous unless you had it mounted on something which I did not want to do.

To each his own though!! That's why they sell different brands.

This doesn't have to turn into a pizzing contest between spinners......

But please be accurate. The low speed on the Donkee 3/4 HP is 450 RPMs. The one speed Vertex 1/2 HP ( 3/4 doesn't appear to be available) is 435 RPMs. They're almost identical, so I'm not sure where the "useless" comment is coming from.

As far as Donkee vibration, I stand by my comment the issue is overblown. I've performed hundreds of complete resurface jobs using the Donkee, and have never produced a flat spot, or experienced other vibration fallout issues. I have too much money invested in a large arsenal (and too many friendships I value ) to put balls at risk with a faulty spinning device.

I do use my Donkee secured on a B&D workbench, but it's not bolted down. Maybe that helps do the trick.

Again, I tried the Innovative and it's a quality spinner product, just like the reports I've read about the Vertex. But I value the high speed Donkee option for non-sanding activities, and I wouldn't want to give that up. As you said, that's why they sell different brands.

Ok now since it has been years since the last post. Has any new spinners come out or is there one spinner to get now? Thank you.
