Did the OP Rvmark ever buy the Dexter Tank?  How is the toe holding up?

I maybe able to help answer some of the questions on here. I see the OP already bought some Tanks and I hope you like them. I am a tester for Dexter and for this problem specifically(I can burn through the front of the SST8s in 2 to 3 weeks). The two solutions that Dexter has to offer right now on preserving the toe for any toe dragger are the Tanks and the Maxpowerstep for SST8s. Both will do the same job at protecting the shoe. There is some resistance when dragging either toe initially. The Tanks are made off of the old SST5s so they have a similar feel. They have little bit of a design on the toe that does wear off after several games then there is not a big drag issue. This is a very thin design but do create some drag at first. I have put several hundred games on my Tanks and there is only the wearing off of the design then they have held up amazing. Anyone can get a lot of life out of these shoes. These are also good for people who bend their foot a lot on the power step and have issues with the SST8s cracking. They are a little bit lighter and a little bit thinner than the SST8s. The SST8s with the Maxpowerstep does the same thing that the Tanks do. The good thing about the SST8s are if you do happen to wear through the Maxpowerstep, you can just buy a new one and replace that instead of the entire shoe. I personally have worn through 2 Maxpowersteps and each probably had about 2000+ games on them. Personally I prefer the SST8s due to the wider footprint and they fit me a little bit better. I feel both shoes are great though and I would recommend trying both on and see which ones you personally prefer. Just keep in mind that if you do bend your foot a lot in the power step, I would suggest the Tanks or a new generation SST8. We have done a few modifications to the new Black/Gold SST8s that will help with bending and flexibility and have lightened them up.

In regards to Velcro, let me say this: I have found more ways to use this stuff, in the sport of bowling, than in any other activity that I've ever been involved with.

I carry Velcro in my bag to make sure certain items stay put, especially when traveling. I have used Velcro, both the fuzzy side and the abrasive side in my ball holes.

And now, a new way to use it....... on my bowling shoes! This stuff is great.

I have my Tanks, have not bowled in them yet but they appear to be well constructed.  They are a little narrower than my SST 6's.

as a fellow toe dragger, I use a simple trick.   Go buy some velcro,  Take the fuzzy side and stick it to the toe on the drag foot.  Might have to cut it down a bit.



I did this with my SST8, and after 1 full season there is 0 wear on the toe. You will have to replace the fuzzy part on occasion, but it is super cheap and effective.

I wanted to thank you for this tip.  I have been having problems with the replacement toe cap on my Tour Ultras always coming off even after glueing it on.  The last time, it actually ripped in half so I glued it back together and back on the shoe and put some fuzzy velcro on the end of it.  Haven't had a problem with it since.
