Question on Turbo finger grips
« on: April 06, 2018, 10:09:59 AM »
Used a new (to me) RG Idol last night. Ball felt really uncomfortable. It was drilled by my PSO, who's normally spot-on perfect. I've checked everything myself, and it seems fine. However, at the same time, and probably a big mistake, I tried tuning my grip sizes and went from my normal Turbo Ice to Turbo colors, which I'm trying in quad and Quad Classic. Yes, I know the differences, and I'm using power oval in all cases, but wow, something's not right. I can tell right off that a Quad Classic 49 is slightly different from Turbo Ice.  I've also heard that Ice is sized and feels different than color grips. This may be true, but a dramatic difference if so. For last night, I change styles from Ice to color, but sizes are the same.

Please, don't switch this to a Turbo vs Vise discussion. The question is....

Do you find Turbo QC feels different than Ice and different than Quad 4-n-1?

Thanks

I haven't used the Quad Classic or Ice but I can say with both Turbo and Vise I've had issues using different colored grips.

For me personally I stick with clear or black now

I've used all three Turbo grips mentioned. Ovals.

Clear Ice are VERY different feel for me. They seem softer and "grippier." I don't know if Turbo has ever claimed that the material is exactly the same as the color inserts, but I don't think so.

IMO, the Clear Ice feel 1/4-1/2 size smaller than the color grips.

Clear inserts are softer and have a bit more grip, black is the softest of the colored grips.  Been installing and using them for 20 years.

Thanks guys. VW, I think (so far) the ICE feel larger to me. Interesting you find them smaller. I'll have to re-evaluate that. I can see a lot of advantage to the colors, but never anticipated this big a difference. I'm going to put some ICE into my new ball and see if the problem goes away... Will report back Sunday.
Thanks

lefty: Maybe the "grippiness" I sense at release makes them feel tighter to me.

For my release, the clear inserts don't allow for my fingers to roll out of the inserts as easily. I tend to hit the shot too much for my liking. My perception of the size is based on the feeling at the release point, not when I place my fingers into the ball.

I don't have any clear inserts currently installed, to see how they feel when I place my fingers in.

Just goes to show how personal "feel" can be!  :)
