rare glove review
« on: March 01, 2017, 11:49:02 AM »
Not everyone wears gloves, but this is for those who do or are thinking of doing so. I'm not great at reviewing stuff, but I thought I could give my 2 cents on this particular glove. Best glove I've worn so far.......(I wear a glove on and off due to a skin condition on my right index and pinky fingers only.)

I've tried Ebonite, brunswick, Storm, Columbia, and "most recently" ELITE gloves. (had this glove for awhile) Elite Talon glove has to be my favorite glove for several reasons...

http://shop.bowlersparadise.com/elite-talon-bowling-glove

1. Value.
<$10 for elite talon at the shop. (online it's $11.01) ... STAR

2. Features.
Unlike other gloves that have that tacky pad/strips on the palm side, Elite gloves cover a wider area including the middle and ring fingers. Others have none, or have limited areas of tacky materal. For this the Elite talon gloves gets another STAR.

3. Fit.
Unlike other gloves, the Elite glove - both the regular glove and the one with the metal backing, fits perfectly. Storm is a tad small and others are a tad too big. All the same "LARGE" size. Other gloves would twist around the index and/or pinky area, ELITE glove doesn't. True fit for me, and for this, Elite Talon gets another STAR.

4. Construction.
I think they all are close, but Elite edges out. Here's why. ALL the other gloves I've worn have ripped and/or materials peeled where my hand/fingers make contact. Over time, some these gloves got "loose". And some of these gloves made my hand sweaty. maybe due to the material.
The Elite, the palm side still looks new. I damp mechanics towel cleans any marking right off. The material on the ELITE Talon glove looks a bit cheap, but after a total of two seasons it's holding up real well. The only thing coming off is the logo and fibers from the Velcro. Elite gets another STAR.

It's missing a star due to appearance. the grey colored tacky pad makes the glove look cheap to me. If it was black, I'd give it another star.

Conclusion: 4 out of 5 STARS...I've had this glove for a long while now, used it on and off. In total, I'd say over two seasons. There was a time I didn't wear any(thing) glove at all. But, I've used other gloves mentioned and I remember buying a new glove every season or mid season. Ebonite seemed the worse for me. Gloves and on my hands don't last.

The Linds gorilla glove is similar or the same thing as the Elite Talon glove. but at  more than half the price, ELITE is much better value.

Also, I picked up a pair of gloves with the metal backing at bowlersparadise the other day - the facility is just 5 miles from my work. I'll see how these work. The C300 glove with the metal gets only 3 stars.....

Note: not sure if this is illegal, but I noticed when I clean my ball between every other frame with ball cleaner, it makes the glove extra tacky.

OK, I know that the gloves thing has gone crazy in the past, but I want to seriously ask about certain gloves that are intriguing me.
I recall many years ago trying an Ebonite glove with a tacky surface and absolutely hated it because it grabbed ALL of my little hand hairs and that's a dealbreaker for me.
I've been looking at the Brunswick, Storm and Hammer gloves. Does anybody have experience with these? Are they tacky or just grippy (i.e such as with a rubberized surface instead of a sticky surface)? Do you find that it's a little easier to get extra revs on the ball using one of these gloves? How is the fit - i.e. a little snug, a little loose, just right?

My problem is usually the pinky and index fingers are too short on most of these gloves (XL).  I forget which brand, but someone makes an XXL size.  I tried it on once and it did actually accommodate my (apparently freakishly) long fingers.  But then you get that twist that you describe.  I have no confidence that fingers would be long enough here.  For 10 beans though, might be worth a shot.

Hammer Black Widow Gold
DV8 Vandal

Update on the Elite gloves.

I got these cheap at the BP shop and bought two gloves with the brace. (I also have the regular glove w/o the brace) I have to say that the material is cheap. The fold in which the strap wraps around is peeling badly. Kinda like that seat cover my dad had in his datsun B210.

The velcro gets stringy, but a lighter to it shrinks these fibers down.

I still like the gloves over the other gloves I've tried. I just wished it didn't peel like fake leather or vinyl....
