Anyone use that colored Vise tape?
« on: April 18, 2005, 12:01:50 AM »
It seems to be growing in popularity.  I am curious what it does and how many Ballreviews members use it and like it?  I went to Vise's website, but I cannot find anything that really explains what it does.

Yes, for me that is a major fault with their website - no explanation. Bad advertising.

I have and sometimes use their Hada patch tape. Not sure what "Hada" means, but it's green and I use to cover the back of my thumb. It protects it from rubbing and helps a little with my release. It has a very thin sponge like layer that helps cushions the thumb.

I tried the blue thumb tape and did not like it at all. It does not stick as well and almost provides some degree of friction.

Ebonite's protecting tape is also very good for the thumb. This is actually my main thumb tape.

With all of these, I first clean my thumb to remove skin oil with alcohol to allow the tape to stick longer. I always attach the tape to the lower part of my finger nail, also to help it stick longer.

So it is basically used for finger protection?

AHEM <shameless plug>
I've got a new tape out there. It's a super slick polymer that goes in the thumbhole. Hit up www.slicktape.com and take a peek. Most folks who've tried like the snug fit that you get without hanging.
 <end shameless plug>

i have used both the purple vise tape and green turbo tape. both basically do the same thing, protect and help with the thumb release. if youre thinking about trying it see if your proshop will let you try both companies before you buy. the adhesive on each is different and will react differently to your skin. for me the turbo sticks better than the vise. some people have better luck with the vise.

The Vise tape is designed for 2 reasons...

1. to protect the thumb from blisters, rubs etc

2. to allow the bowler to get a tighter fit in the thumbhole without having to alter the ball. the tape provides a smoohter release naturally

I use the blue or dark green tape on the back of my thumb in connection with the Magic Carpet and I have never had such a smooth thumb exit.

Jorge, I just ordered a sample pack of your "SlickTape"

This may be a dumb question so please forgive me:  Does it go in the front or in the back of the thumb hole?

Not a dumb question at all:
Most folks seem to like it on the back, with a white one up front.
Don't remove any tape at first, despite the snugger fit you will get out easier. Thanks for ordering, I'll double up your sample so you can share;just make sure you tell'em where you got it!

Tnx
Jorge

I currently use no tape in any of my bowling balls, but I am always looking for a cleaner thumb release.  Hopefully this will help.  Thank you for the double order.    I will help spread the word.

Yes, as far as I know; they all go on the fingers, not in the holes.
