Support/Positioner Advice
« on: April 27, 2007, 12:09:46 AM »
I'm having trouble with my wrist collapsing and am looking for a good support/positioner.  My pro shop only stocks the Mongoose; so, I have been looking at some others online.  Are there significant differences between models like Robby's Revs II, Storm Gadget, and Pro Release?  It appears these all are geared to accomplish the same thing, but I'd appreciate any advice you one whether one is better designed than another.  Also, is the Mongoose a good product (looks similar to the Power Paw)?   Thanks.

The Mongoose is a very good and comfortable wrist support. It will keep your wrist from breaking down and help with keeping your release consistant. The 3 you mentioned are more complexed, in that they let you change the cup position of your hand to increase or decrease revs, and also change hand position to alter the side turn on the ball. Depends on what you want out of the support. The Mongoose is a very good brace if all you want to do is keep your wrist from breaking down. If you want to cup the ball more, the Pro Release is probably is very good. Good Luck!

I used a Pro-Release for awhile and liked it but I don't use one anymore.

Politically incorrect question!

Real bowlers no longer use wrist braces...though many did in the past!

I love my Robbies standard wrist brace or the Columbia version.

Leather with a piece of metal in front and back slid into the leather.

I've also used the Mongose lifter and that adds a touch of extra hook!
Mongoose Equalizer seems to have for me...a staighter trajectory!

Then the adjustables...if you need or want it....more hook!

Pro Release is by far the best wrist brace made.It does more different things than any other brace around and gives better support than the others.

If you suffer from a chronic wrist problem (as I do) a wrist device can save your game.

I use the Pro-Release and although I wish it were made of a lighter material such as Robbies or Brunswick use, it has literally saved my wrist and my game. I have modified mine by removing the large molded support that is positioned under the wrist. This frees up my wrist enabling me to not rely on the device to change hand positions. I only need the support to the top side of my hand.

As for "real bowlers" not using supports any more I wonder what the 5 time CBA (Central Bowlers Alliance---Minnesota's premier tournament association--where the elite compete, including Sam Lanto-USBC Nationals high average king--and several Team USA members past and present)  Bowler of the Year would say about that? He uses the Brunswick device that is similar to the Pro-Release.
