Thoughts on Revivor choices?
« on: March 13, 2025, 01:44:30 AM »
All the search returns seem really old on this topic. With the current price of a ball and being retired now, I know it's past time for me to try a revivor to go along with my resurfacing efforts. I see Nuball and Phoenix options. What's the latest on best product out there?
Thanks in advance

I bought the Innovative one ball Revivor a few years ago. it has paid for itself. The temperature is factory set at 140 so we can't screw that up. It does an exceptional job.

In years of working in and around pro shops I like Innovative as they have always had good customer service and parts for my spinner when needed.

Thanks for the feedback. I saw that Innovative had a 1 ball revivor and trust that brand better than either of the other two, but I 'think' it's about $100 more... Yes/no? Also, do you still feel it's actually extending ball life an appreciable amount or will balls need to be back in the oven after every 3-5 games?
thanks in advance

My experience is that until you get 50 or so games on a ball, assuming you clean them after each use, you won't be pulling much oil out.

Not all covers are the same, even within the same brand, but I'd wait at least 30 games to check to see if there has been much oil absorbed.

Of course, until that point I'm resurfacing very regularly to maintain the desired reaction. Hope this helps.
By the way, since all my teammates have me doing their bake/resurface work my Revivor has paid for itself.

Thanks for the info. I have at least 50 games or more on 4-5 balls, well maintained but still.... If most balls can tolerate multiple cycles, and if continued use produces continued results above a 5-10 game threshold, it may well be worth it.... Yes/no?

5-10 game cycle won't hurt the ball, it's just whether you want to spend the time.  The factory setting at 140 degrees is considered safe, so there's probably no down side.

HOWEVER, once finished, I like to let the ball return SLOWLY back to room temperature before resurfacing. If you place your ball in that often make sure you have time to let it return to a normal temperature to avoid extreme changes.

Living in Utah I have worked on several hundreds of balls between the Pro Shop and home, many Storm products and Brunswick family products with nothing but grateful bowlers when performance has been restored to their equipment that is getting more expensive.

Apologies, I worded that last question poorly. What I meant to ask was that I hope a ball would not have to be done every 5 games to see a positive result and that a ball can handle multiple cycles, say every 30 games, and reasonably expect contiunued results and extended life.... ?

I have never seen a ball that absorbed oil (enough to hurt motion) that fast. Since every ball ever made needs to find friction to change direction, we're just not rolling it through enough oil for it to be absorbed that fast.

All I can say is some of these balls have hundreds of games on them and can still perform very well when the oil is extracted AND the surface texture matches up with the bowler and their lane condition.
