Striker Wrist brace...where to get...?
« on: December 31, 2007, 01:51:12 AM »
Just tried the other day and it was nice!!  I've had occassionally very good results with this brace in the past and it was impressive again the other day!

A friend made a nice bowling career over the last few years once he got this.

Where to get these days...it seems like someone bought these braces out.

Brunswick?  Ebonite??

Brickguy? You seemed to know something??

They are made buy ebonite and are similar to the mongoose lifter but cheaper.
Hope this helps. And your local shop should be able to get them from their distro. Have a good new year.

At one time, Brunswick supposedly bought out the rights to make this Wrist Brace from an individual that made them. Don't remember just when this happened, but think it was in 2003 give or take a year. You are the one that put me on to this Wrist Brace, but I couldn't find this guy named "Marty" that made them. I then found a brand new one for sale in this forum and immediately bought it.

When I received it, in addition to "Striker", it also had Brunswick's name on it. I contacted Brunswick as a friend was wanting one also and they refered me to another party associated with KR, the company that makes Bowling Ball Bags. This person acknowledged that they had purchased the rights to this glove and were going to make them for Brunswick. They were on the KR site at that time and had Brunswick's name on them.

After that I don't know what happened. I heard once that this "Marty" was making them again, but that was 2-3 years ago.

I am thinking that Scotts 33 knows a bit about this wrist device and also Marty, but not sure. You might try contacting Scotts 33. Maybe KR also. Maybe even Rick Hamlin might be able to give you some insight about this, I don't know.

Let us know what you find out.

Luttski, it that is true, then they are nothing like the original Striker Wrist Device. I have the original Striker and I have the Mongoose Lifter and there is no comparison between the two. They are completely different in design, fit, feel, what they accomplish, and etc.

I was going based off of the name. I sell both and they are very similar but I prefer the mongoose as it is much more solid but the ebonite is half the price so customers go for it. I was unaware of the one you are talking about. Any pics of your striker, kinda curious on what it looks like and how it works.

Strikeking, if they are for the original "Striker Elite" Wrist Device, that would be great if you will do that.

i bought something called a striker from someone who claimed to make them at the reno nationals in 2004.  did not see the man or the item the last 3 years.  i use it on occasion in practice sessions as a good reminder to keeping one's wrist straight and in a strong position.

Yes, I know a little about them.  Marty made them originally to fit your hand custom made.  Marty was out of Oak Creek, WI and worked out of John Megna's shop in Milwaukee out of S. 92nd St.  http://www.johnmegnaproshop.com/

Now I see they are listed out of Brookfield/Elm Grove...Milwaukee's yuppie westside.  http://www.yellowbot.com/striker-wrist-support-brookfield-wi.html

Marty sold the rights to maybe ? Big B although I always thought it was Ebonite hence Ebonite has made a wrist support much like the Mongoose that is nothing like the original Striker and called it the Striker. I was told that Marty bought it back from Ebonite and produces them again.  Hence, the listing in Brookfield, WI.  In the past, Marty did go to Natl's and had a booth set up.

Here's the deal with the Striker in that it is restrictive but can be a great hand/wrist positioner if you use it the correct way. Diane Stanislawski <Milw> Team USA showed me this early 90's.  If you lay your hand flat on the Striker and don't cup your hand/fingers you'll get length and revs.  Ball will read lane correctly instead of lane reading midlane too early, etc.  It's perfect for a flat neutral position which is so important for today's heavy rolling hooking equipment.

They are available...I'd try the Brookfield address/link.

I'd like to thank EVERYONE who took the time to post in this thread a lot of
help out here!

Thanks,

Luckylefty
PS...note...I've tried an

Ebonite Zloc2 brace
and it WAS straight....
It did not feel quite the same as the Striker Elite wrist support which seems to have more foam in the extended finger position than the rest of the brace making the finger roll....VERY heavy!

I have been talking to John Megna by Email http://www.johnmegnaproshop.com/ and he says he has these "Striker Elite Wrist Devices" in stock. I am waiting on him to verify that he and I are talking about the same one and hope to hear from him tomorrow. They are $39.95 plus shipping if you don't live in Wisconsin. Will be tax also if you live in Wisconsin.
