The Ebonite black tape is indeed thick and stiffer than some of the others. However, my problem with Ebonite black tape, is getting it to stick in the thumb hole. (Yes, I even tried cleaning the thumb hole and it still didn't stay in) The Ebonite tape I had wasn't very sticky on the back and would keep falling out of the ball. That was 2 years ago.
