It's good to hear about a bowling center REopening, as opposed to closing. Hope everything goes well!

The leagues have all left and signed on elsewhere --  I would think it will be very hard to get any of them back after contracts have been signed with other bowling centers.

Well then maybe they'll get a lot of open bowling, birthday parties & some fund raisers for various organizations on nights they would otherwise not have available... Lets hope they have a good marketing plan to get the word out they're reopening.  Either way, kudos to them & good luck.

Bowling centers can't survive today without leagues to generate income. They will not make it on only open bowling and special activities.

Pretty sure that there are centers that survive just on open bowling.  Last time I was in Reno, we were looking for a center that had open bowling so we could throw some practice/warmups and we were told about a center on an Indian reservation.  We went there and the lane setup was not something I would want to bowl in leagues on.  The lanes were staggered 2-3 feet so that the foul lines/lanes/ approaches were not parallel to each other.  They were kind of like this:

1&2  ............................................................. 15&16
.......  3&4  .........................................13&14
..................5&6 ......................11&12
...........................7&8....9&10...

I wasn't saying full time... I was saying until/if they can attract the leagues...  Getting the word out now... but in the mean time, they have an advantage with the "party & fundraising" crowd, being able to offer days & times that centers with leagues couldn't.  Along with the open bowling.  People on Thursdays may want to go & practice on Wednesday, & knowing a center doesn't have league going on, can go right after dinner... Just saying "until". And hopefully they are "getting the word out & putting together a good marketing plan..."  Pretty much thought I laid that out in my last post.

This rumor was circulating last October as well; supposedly they were going to open in January and survive on open bowling.  Supposedly they were going to rip out several lanes and put in a night club. Obviously, that didn't happen.

It's a biiiiig house. Need a lot of lane play to cover costs. Would be interested to hear their business model. If they plan on surviving, they have to capture the business the had....and much much more.  The Friday league kept that place open, and now it's gone. Any other time -- unless the high school kids have a meet -- the place was a ghost town. They even fired the karaoke guy that actually brought business from the outside.

Can't see it happening... unless someone is interested in a tax write-off.

Yeah I think the days of the mega houses are coming to an end. ThunderBowl and Clover are pretty empty most of the time too. Heat and electricity plus building maintainence and property taxes must make it real hard to turn a profit unless you keep the place busy.

Good luck to them though. Haven't bowled there since the old Sunday Sleepers league back in the day that was real strong.

no april fools joke. We are in our second year and doing great. We are bowlers who know what bowlers want and how to be treated.  It's clean, friendly, and an all around better atmosphere. You won't  find any bowling more affordable than right here. Seniors, league bowlers or just your everyday open bowlers are treated like a VIP.
