Cleaning/maintaining slide heels

Any suggestions on how to clean the slide heel of my bowling shoes other than using a steel brush? What works best for you?

acetone works well, removing dirt and gunk.
Fine sandpaper works well.

Alcohol (or acetone, if needs be) works well on rubber-type heels. The wire brush works well on leather-type soles. When leather-type heels, like soles are too worn to function, you need a new one.

I use alcohol to get the junk off the heel (the rubber ones) and then wipe a thin layer of vegetable oil on it, leave it for 2 min or so, then wipe the oil off. then I rub a small amount of baby powder into the heel. After doing this it's like brand new. I use a Dexter H5 (blue) most of the time, not sure if this works on the H1 (red) one since the H5 is slicker.
