The Greater New York Amateur Championships.
Handicap tournament broken down to 3 divisions. Group one Averages between 170 and 190. Group two, Averages between 191 and 211. Group three, averages 212 and up. All averages are last years composite averages listed on bowl.com.
Entry is $150.00. There are 7 games. 85% handicap of 230.
Full details are being worked out. We are looking for 150 entries (50 per group). First place in each group is estimated to be approx $1800.00.
We already have discounted rates worked out at local hotels for people coming from out of town. As we get closer to the date we will have more details. This will be in Nassau County, Long Island. The tentative date is Saturday June 4th. We are still 4 months away so details are still being worked on. If you have any interest, comment on here or send a message. So you say you don't need the USBC but you are going to try to run a tournament and use last year's composite average from bowl.com.  That's not exactly practicing what you preach.

The point allaboutme is trying to say is that it costs the USBC to compile the averages and input that information on the web. So, you are allowing the USBC to use their money to your advantage so you do not have to pay to compile averages, etc. Imagine if you had to go from house to house and get each league average sheet and compile that information for yourself to run a tourney. You would want to be paid for the gas and time you spent. But yet, you rail against the USBC when they need to pay someone (or multiple people) to do the same thing. Funny how that works. 

Stop talking out of both sides of your mouth. If you truly want the USBC gone, don't use their resources and do it yourself.

Yeah we are all PAID members of the USBC. Maybe you should follow some of your logic there and stop hijacking threads. You are sure one to talk about that. Just check some of your posts in other threads.

So...you state because you are self employed you would have time to drive around and collect average sheets and its no big deal. Well, I live in Illinois. Drive down here to just outside the Lou and get the average sheet from my league. Oh yeah, I bowl at a place near my house, a little further at a different center, and 2 places in Missouri. Keep on driving.

Still talking out of both sides of your mouth. There is no way you would drive down here for my average sheets. And yes this is valid because you stated in your reply you want people from out of town. Here I am.

Yeah I have heard of those things. I have even heard of the Internet, as it might be how we all post to this website. I have also heard many of times that someone submits false documents over the internet, etc when items are not confirmed in person. So no problem, call or fax the league secretary. Just make sure that the person doesn't have anything to gain by sending something amiss with the form. Which by the way, would be on you as you would have failed to ensure the document was correct as the tourney organizer.

However, USBC does not have that issue. That is why the resource the USBC provides to allow us to look up the info online is nice, easy, and a resource many can use.

Further, maybe the extra money the USBC is asking for (potentially) is because the USBC have employees and the employees want raises because costs are going up for employees, because families are expanding, because of whatever reason.

Oh yeah....one last thing. I show up for your tournament. Check in usually starts maybe an hour before bowling starts and continues up till about 15 minutes (or less) until the tourney starts. So I show up, not pre-entered (as most tourneys are not pre-entries) and you think in less than an hour you are going to be able to get ahold of the league secretary at my house, about 1000 miles away, and have him or her fax you my information or send the info to your email? Plus, considering I bowl in 4 different houses in 4 different leagues, you would need to accomplish that 4 times. I highly doubt  you are going to be able to contact 4 different individuals and have the information sent to you, someone the league secretary doesn't know and SHOULD be hesitant to send out any information because the secretary doesn't know you from a hole in the wall, and you expect to do this for multiple people that show up?

Nah, I will just pay the extra money the USBC wants to handle all those headaches!

Agreed Bowlaholic! Considering my USBC fee is a total of $20 for local and national, 5 bucks more means I would pay $25 per year if I would only bowl in one local association. I bowl in the summer as well as tourneys. So I get to use every USBC resource for maybe $25 a year, which is LESS than 50 cents a week...and we have issues with it.

Although USBC has jacked around and in the eye of many wasted money, what the USBC does provide is well worth the cost that is charged.

Could you imagine the headaches checking into a tourney and each time someone from outside the alley hosting the tournament enters someone from the tourney staff would need to check and verify every average? Know how long that would take? Further, how would the tourney staff know the bowler is providing EVERY league he or she bowls in? What if I have a 220 average one place but 190/195 at two other places and 180 at the last? Pretty easy to leave out that one house and only provide the other 3 and nobody would be the wiser if nobody bowled with me in the league I left out.

Yet again, another reason why the USBC service is well worth whatever they charge.
