I think I have really lost it!!
« on: September 29, 2003, 12:50:09 AM »
Last night I bowled in a couples league, and it was the worst of last couple weeks downward spiral. Lately my game has gone of the deepend, and I thought it was because of the tequilla, so last night I bowled sober. It didnt matter, in fact those were the worst games of my life!!! My wrist hurt more then ever before, my elbow was sore, my shoulder was aching.......damn it, I think I am getting old........the 16# balls I bought this summer feel like 20#er's. I cant get them to do what I did in the summer league, heck I am lucky to be able to lay them down in the same place more then a few times per game.

Is it time to look at lighter equipment? I think it is, but how light should I go? I cant see dropping to a 15 will help much, so maybe 14? Heck I dont know.

I know I am beating myself up mentaly over this, cause I know I have good games inside, but cant for the life of me find them. Is it the wood lanes causeing me such grief? Summer league was on synthetic lanes, and I thought the wood might not be to bad to taim, but boy was I wrong.

Sorry for the rambleing folks, but its been a slow build inside and I had to vent a bit. Tonight is my mens league and I dread going.

Could be the ball weight but are you muscling the ball?  Try letting the ball weight do the work for you and dont add any additional muscle with your arm/shoulder.  There are some previous posts on this website that describe the proper method or try reading Ron C's tips at http://www.bowl4fun.com/ron/roncarchive.htm .

Tips #7, #12, and #14 might be of benefit.

What is it that you are having problems with?  I only keyed on the soreness you were having but what part of your game is in need of help?

Dropping down one pound can make a big difference but first you have to make sure you arent trying to 'help' the ball with more muscle.  There is also a big difference between how wooden lanes and synthetics react.

Thanks for bringing those articles to my attention again, they helped.
What I was doing and wasnt aware of, was pushing the ball on the first of a five step, and was always forceing the ball to catch up at the foul line. Last nights score werent to good but it all felt right and I enjoyed myself for the first time in weeks.

Thanks again

You might want to consider switching to a 4 step approach.  It's easier to keep your timing than with a 5 step.

Not necessarily there Cat Girl!   Think of a 5 step approach counted like this : 1, ..1 2 3 4, ...instead of 12345.  I just took my mom from a 3 step to a 4 step with the same teaching...I told her it's 1, 1-2-3....
