I'm going to my first one next weekend.  I made a post about it here.

http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=142040&ForumID=16&CategoryID=5

I hope they are more organized than they seem.  Both web sites (Tough Shots and Northcross Lanes) are woefully out of date, the people at Northcross didn't give me a vote of confidence when I called them, and Northcross and Tough Shots can't even seem to decide on the format or number of games.

I'm going to go because I'm not too far away, I like tournaments that aren't score fests, and I have something else to nearby the same day.  If it's run like it looks on the web, it will be my last.

Are you youth or adult. I bowled at Roxboro (home alley), finished 6th and bowled in Cary and finished 5th.

I'm an adult (see profile).  I should mention that the adult entry fee is $55.

Again, Tough Shots web site (forum) says 5 games across 10 lanes, then top 5 go to a stepladder final.  Now someone who'd been there says 7 across 14, then top 16 do match play.  Either it's different for youths or Tough Shots needs to get their act together as far as communication and consistency.

Now, I know if it were 20 games across 40 lanes, I'd back Joe Falco in a heartbeat.

If you get a free weekend Joe, you should consider the match play tournaments in Greensboro.  Go to http://www.gatecitylanes.com/tournaments.html for details.  Next tournament is 11/18/06, Viper pattern.  Unfortunately, they don't keep their site up to date much either.  I call and tell them and send them emails, but I don't know why they refuse to update the tournament page.

I'll let you know how it goes.

The tournament was well done and worth attending.  Payouts were kind of low, but it was a small field.  I liked the 5 game format much better than the normal 3 that so many places use now.  When we got there, we were told it was a 42' sport pattern.  Many moaned because they didn't bring an oiler.  But, as many forget, sport shots are not all heavy oil.  This one was very medium.  The shot played in, but you had plenty of equipment choices depending on your game.  There wasn't a true out of bounds on the outside, but if you leaked it there, it wasn't hitting the head pin.  You could play down and in, but it was very touchy.

I started down and in with my Tour Power, but gave up after about 5 frames, because my weaker release wasn't consistent enough.  I moved left of center with my WMB and targeted 14 to 12 depending on the pair.  I didn't need something super strong, but it's by far my smoothest piece.  The back ends started off crisp, so you didn't want anything that read the dry too hard.  The last game I couldn't get the WMB through the heads or had no recovery, so I moved a little left with my Tour Power.  I was 2nd after 3, but dropped to 12th after the worst game I've thrown in literally 5-10 years.  I managed to average 207.5 for the other 4, but that one left me minus overall and 40 out of the cash.  Four unmake-able splits that looked really good up to the break point and some bad spare making left me shaking my head.  I did manage a 205 the last game and the leader (same pair) only had a 150, but I was only able to climb to 10th.

All in all I had a good time and thought it was a good event.  Now, if I can just learn to make a spare...
