Ball chipped
« on: May 10, 2007, 04:45:44 PM »
Hey, I was bowling a few games yesterday after school and I noticed a small chip and scratch on my ball. It was on the opposite side of my grip. Not sure if it was my fualt for loosing grip of my release or if it was the ball return. Either way I would like to know if I can get it patched up. The chip is about the size of a peanut. Thanks.

As long as it is not in your track and does not appear to be a true crack which goes as deep as the filler under the cover material, you could leave it as it is.

However, I fixed a similar surface chip on one of my balls, a Blade Particle, with Tamiya 2 component epoxy putty: http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=4196518

You get it in model kit stores, very fine Japanese material. There are several variants available with different "open" periods before hardening, this one is the normal ochre-colored material. It has, once dry, a similar hardness to the coverstock material, a bit softer than plug material. It is not good for large holes, but deep scratches are easily filled and evened out with sandpaper and, if need be, some polish. You just will have to live with the color.

You can also  fill in small nicks and such with
super glue. Just use a good brand, I think they set better.

Just fill it in and let it dry hard. Then sand it smooth.
for a larger gouge, do it in layers.put in a little and let it dry,
then repeat till filled. Master quick set activator will also make
it set real fast.

Also you can use Devcon Plastic Welder. It can use regular ball
plugging colors.

If you don't really know, and very unsure of yourself. Just bring it to the pro shop and ask if its really a major issue and they can always patch it up for a few bucks if you don't wanna do it yourself

Hey! I made it all the way to the gutter. Shouldn't I get like 20 points or something?

I think I'll try my pro shop. But anything over 15-20 bucks then I'll try to patch it up myself.
