Ball for Wood lanes
« on: November 09, 2004, 05:56:19 AM »
I moved from USA to Australia and they have wood lanes here not synthetic as the USA had.  I now have a Storm Trauma ER that needs replacing that I brought with me from the USA.  I'm retired now and have started bowling a lot more - am bowling in 4 leagues a week with a 175-180 avg. and improving.

What Reactive ball would you recommend for these conditions?

Thanks for any help.

The real issue in not the lane surface, but how much oil there is.  No one ball is better on wood or synthetics.  In other words, any ball can be used on both surfaces.  Without knowing the lane conditions; oil volume, length of oil on the lane, is there an out of bounds or is there dry boards on the outside?  also, since you haven't entered a profile, none of us have any clue as to how you throw the ball.  What is your ball speed, rev rate (cranker, stroker) etc,? That infomation will make it much easier to make a ball recommendation.

Thanks for your reply.  I have posted some info about my bowling style in the profile section.  As you will see I'm not up to speed on all the terms, etc.

Again, thanks for any help.

the usual applies that to each his own and many times it's just opinion.
it really dosen't matter. it's more about matching your style, oil pattern and volume with the proper drilling and surafce prep.

now having said all that. when given a choice between a reactive and a particle that would both work, I will choose a particle for wood lanes. Now I have used reactives, mainly pearls with great results on light burnt wood lanes.

I will wait and see if the untamed or rule change my mind.

but just my .02c and what works for me.

TRACK THARSH is my favorite ball for oily wooden lanes. now mine is a Bonanza 300 thrash.. so as the lanes dry out I have to change balls.. so it might not be the best.. but Track or Brunswick is all I have in my bag.. and IT IS ALL I WILL THROW. The Ultimate Inferno (brunswick) I have not thrown on wood lanes yet so I cant tell anything about it. The Raging inferno is good.. just like the Thrash though... i average 215 in wood houses with the Thrash... 226 in synthetic....
