Best Arsenal Strategy.
« on: January 29, 2016, 04:59:57 PM »
This is actually a follow up post of an another post I made. That was long and I thought this might go un noticed, hence I created this new topic.

What's the best strategy.

1. One Ball. Medium RG, Medium to a little higher Differential, Drilled medium strong, or Benchmark if you will with sum of DA around 100, and use different surfaces to bring Hook Point closer or to send it further down the lane.

2. 3 of the same balls. Same Layout. And use 3 Different surfaces for different lanes.

3. 3 Different balls. 3 Different layouts, no Surface change.

4. 3 Different balls. 3 Different layouts, modify surface now and then to suite the need.

Which is proven, most cost-effective, most efficient way to develop Arsenal? 1, 2, 3, or 4? Or is there a 5th or 6th option which I'm not even aware of?

Layouts are dependent on a lot of variables, but for house patterns I would go with basic pin up layouts and let the difference in cover/core strength create separation to step down as the lanes transition.
Sounds good. Thanks

I think you can do the job with the three Cyclones, these balls are stronger than their price indicates.  However, I would suggest varying the pin to PAP distance as well as the pin up/pin down.  Work with your driller.  By the way, there is a pearl Cyclone now, I think it's the green one.  --  JohnP

Yep. It's Green Pearl one. BTW. Thanks for pointing in the direction of Cyclone.

I don't plan on Bowling in competition, don't have that much time. I'm happy bowling 2 or 3 times a week, few games with friends. I am not looking to spend a fortune on different balls like others have 7 or 8 or more balls Arsenal.

You are right. I will stick to Cyclones for now. May be a Game Breaker 2 in future for heavy.

Thanks for kind advice mate.

Today's bowling equipment tends to migrate to a specific surface roughness after a few games.  Regardless of the starting grit, you will end up at a point dependent on the type of surface you are bowling on.  This is the main reason I wouldn't suggest a 3 Cyclone arsenal.

I can see having two of a particular benchmark ball with variances in them (as part of a larger arsenal) to have that extra level of control, but to limit yourself to 3 of one ball as your entire arsenal I think isn't the best idea.

I think you could cover a lot with 2 Cyclones.  Though I don't know if any of them are solids which I would prefer one of them being a solid and the other a pearl.  I'd go pin above and pin under based on your stats. and PAP.

I tested the Fireball which charlest says is a pearl but not noted on Ebonite site and the Green/Yellow pearl over the weekend one down and one up both gave me decent looks but different looks on a house shot.  Being a symmetrical and the total diff. of .053 for 14's with a relatively good cover give them a lot of drilling versatility.  I think you could cover 75% of whatever you would see with 2 Cyclones especially if you bowl THS leagues and little tournament wise.  Add a GB2 for heavier and you are set. Cyclones wold cover light-medium to medium-heavy. Cyclone at $84 has to be the best bang for the buck vs. performance you can get out of the ball.

Keeping the surface fresh is covered in his post titled "Surface, surface, surface".  --  JohnP
