do any of you have a dad like this
« on: July 07, 2004, 02:59:03 AM »
my dad goes crazy over my bowling, like when I'm bowling
not so well every once in a wile, he goes nuts over it,
i want to punch him, and then i get so stressed i bowl
just as bad or worst the next game, and then for the rest
of that day he goes on and on about it, like yesterday i bowled
very bad because i had to use a ball that i don't use very often
cause it was so dry so i had to swing out there and i was very
Inaccurate, it angers me that he never says anything good
about my bowling he just says the bad. I know he trying to
help me but hes doing more bad then good. In fact he did not
even want me to bowl in the summer he said i should be golfing.
And he does not even bowl, he barely understand lane conditions  and
he does not understand sport shot at all.

my dad is nice to me he helps buys my equipment and he takes me
to practice even know he still does all that other stuff but at least
i get to bowl.im glad my mom usually takes me to bowling but ever once
in a wile my dad has to.

I think im not that bad of a bowler im 14 i average like around 175 in two
different leagues and i don't think thats not two bad but could be better.

Next time he does that by going nuts just put your shoes back on and the ball in the bag. And say let's go home- you embrassing me in front of these people.Does he play golf also? He will do the same with you in golf as well.Get someone you know to video tape you and show you what to work on. If he ask you why we are leaving just mention what I said earlier and also say in a polite way. Why you go nuts when you don't know any thing about bowling? You fall in a group of kids that one or both parents goes nuts if their kid don't do right to their expectation on how they think you shoud do. E-mail me back on the ballreviews Bowlgnut. Can you give me infro on your bowling lanes, oil, what hand you bowl with?
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

he does golf but Actually
he does not care how i do,hes good,but i don't
take golf to seriously i only go once in awile,
but there was this junior golf league he wanted me
to be in but my bowling league was during the same time
i could not do golfing like he wanted me to. but i wile ago
i did have one of my friends at the ally video taped me like
a month ago and there was nothing horrible about my style
just need to fallow through better and keep my balance better
and strike more. but i bowl around 16 games a week and thats
alot of games and once in wile i have a bad one, but it just
angers me he never says anything good, this is just about bowling
for some reason all other sports he good about, and bowling is my
best sport.

there is nothing that anyone could do to stop me bowling i would ride
my bike to the bowling ally with 30 pounds of bowling balls on my back
in a back pack if it came down to that

I agree with BOWLGNUT
Pack your stuff up and tell him lets go.
You have to do it in fron of a few adults for it to work though.

There are parents like this in all sports though.
In the other sports they yell at the ref.  There is no ref
in golf or bowling so it all happens to you.  Pretty sad
I think.

Coming from a father that was never subtle about anything (my own Dad) I think I have a slightly different perspective.  In a way i see this with my own son.  Is your Dad going over board.  If everything is exactly as you explain it than yes he is, but I know when I was young I never felt like my Dad ever said anything good to me because the only thing that ever stuck in your mind was the bad.  I get on my own son now because when things are going good in sports he is all for it, but boom let one thing go bad and he is just going through the motions.  He is done with it and not going to put anything else into it.

Unfortunately life doesn't work out where we can all just walk around and pat the each other on the back and tell them they did great because all people are imperfect.  Mistakes are made and character needs to be built.  If your Dad is going overboard then that is wrong I am not making light of it.  I can tell you though that looking back on my youth I cannot seem to remember one good thing my Dad ever said about how I played football or really any other sport.  I know one thing.  I know it taught me to never let up to never be satisfied with doing one thing well and it turned me into a true competitor and a two time college all conference football player.  You say he doesn't bug you on the golf stuff and I suspect it is because as you said you don't take it too serious it is for fun.  As parents we want the best for our kids and if you are really that serious about bowling maybe he is just trying to push you to be better.  To really accomplish something with what you yourself say you want.  Maybe you need to stop and talk to your Dad and try to understand his side or his motivation.

I don't really play cards and I am not 79, but it fits together somehow.
