cleaning your balls

Quick question:

I throw a yellow/chrome power groove for my first ball, and I usually hook the living snot out of it...the last 2 weeks or so I can't get it to turn for me hardly at all...and everybody says I haven't changed my release.

Could a lack of cleaning be causing this ball not to hook since we play medium/heavy oil on most league nights?

I bowl with Brunswick (I have a PowerGroove), MoRich and Storm..... Track magic products work great....

I use my own mixture of Simple Green (75/25)and water and wipe off with a rag. It gets the oil, dirt and even the belt marks off. Never had a problem with that mixture. Used an orange mixture but it seemed to leave a 'film' on the ball, harder to get off  so I changed.

If you decide to try soaking the ball, use hot water from the tap, not boiling hot.  You can put it in a bucket or sink and add hot water with some type of degreasing cleaner as mentioned above.  I use Dawn.  Cover up the fingerholes with some type of waterproof tape if you are concerned about water getting into the ball or if you plan on using it within the next day.  Let it soak for about ten minutes then take it out and wipe if off with a rag or cloth.  Repeat as necessary.  This should help in removing some of the oil that the ball has soaked up.

There is also the dishwasher method, which I havent tried but dont forget to make sure the Heat cycle is Off.

Dont some of the Orange cleaners use the oil from oranges?  That might explain what you are seeing.

NO!....if you want an expensive spare ball....well it will hook but a whole lot less and much later.

had a friend kill a primal instinct that way...resurfaced ....still sucked(well compared to how it was before the polisher)

My opinion is you probally just had more oil on the lanes and thats why it didnt break much. You said you usually hook the snot out of it...well then youre not seeing much oil. Maybe they just oiled the lanes a little more this week and that why you didnt hook the snot out of it. It's a great ball and stronger than it was made out to be...but it still is not gonna handle medium-heavy that you say you have. JMO

Maybe so...unfortunately, it's been going on 3.5 weeks now without much backend.
I'm going to buy some cleaner tonight, I think, and slow down my delivery a bit and see if that helps.

I cleaned my balls last night using hot water and some dish soap.

They look nice, if nothing else, and will buy that ball cleaner tonight at league.

Star Wars,

I would first place a little dish washing degreaser soap on a dry paper towel and rub this on the bowling ball.  This will really get all the dirt, oil and grime of the ball.  Then I'll rinse the ball with water to get the soap off.  Dry it off with a towel, then rub in some Ebonite Powerhouse cleaner on the ball to get the tackiness back to the ball.

Yeah, I went to buy some cleaner last night, and the pro shop was closed.

Poop.

However, I did clean my ball the other night, and noticed a significant difference in backend.  I actually went on to win our tournament and break my silly little slump!
