fingers pain
« on: May 30, 2017, 12:09:07 PM »
Hi all,

First of all, sorry about my grammar!

I've just bought my first bowling ball (finger tip, righty) for 4 days and were doing well. Just yesterday, I went bowling and I experienced some pain and scratching on my fingers, mostly my thumb. I can feel my thumb started to become harder and harder to come out the thumb hole and ended up scratching it. Also have bruises on the root of the thumb nail. (As circled in the attachment)

Is there any problem with my gripping or the drilling? Or I am not doing the release well?

Not good, go back to the PSO and he can fix the problem with your grip. He may say user error and if he does, get a second opinion.
Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

Thanks for ur reply!

Oh my gosh! Because when the first time I threw the ball was just fine, no dragging, just not getting use to throw a finger tip grip.
Then I started bowling a lot for the past 3 days (total of 19 games, 8,4,7 separately)
I am wondering if I played too much or not.
I started feeling the bowling ball's dragging my thumb for the last 2 game today and I had to switch to 2-handed style to finish my game

*Additional info, my bowling ball is 11lb 4oz motiv freestyle

Hi,

I can't see or open your pictures so you might want to check out these links and see if they apply to you.  I agree that you should see your ball driller and have him re-check your grip and fit.  Once you start to bowl a lot, your thumb size may change.

The links are very useful! I should visit the PSO ASAP, that means an hour ride to the other city......
I'll see if I can fix the attachment and possibly upload a new pic for you guys to see how badly my thumb is!

thumb nail pressing against the back of thumb hole during release - causes redness under cuticle, something even bleeding underneath which will appear as black lines under finger nail. This is typically due to too long span.

YES! I find it is very difficult for my thumb to clear the thumb hole straight, I have to bend the knuckle to have a smooth exit, especially when I place the ball on the floor and try to do the release drill, my thumb just can't get out of the thumb hole.

But by doing the span check, my fingers are just doing just fine.
