New Ball ?
« on: August 04, 2007, 07:06:48 AM »
Right now I have a messenger TI that is 16# and I am having problems getting the intened hook for the ball. I know that its not the ball as much as the wieght and my throw. I think the 16# ball is causing my wrist to break. what would be a good step down point to a lighter ball 14 or 15. to give you the picture of me I am a strong 115# 6'1" build if that makes a difference

Have you ever used a wrist brace?  Is the wrist breaking because the ball is too heavy or is it because you don't have enough strength in the wrist to keep it firm?  Do you feel tired after a couple games or so?  If not, then the ball is not too heavy.  You just need a brace to keep your wrist position firm.  Also, what kind of lane condition are you bowling on?  If you have carry down or a high volume of oil, that ball is not going to break that much.

Dropping weight may not be the only solution to the problem.

the 16# does make my alittle tired. I have tried a wrist brace but not a good one just a cheapy. the lanes are oily but I have slower my ball seap to not a tremenous amount of help. I fairly sure it is ralated to my wrist breaking. also I have been planning on a new ball as is and feel like a step down would help overall.

That helps Greg.  Then I would recommend going down to a 15 pound ball.  Then, you may want to invest in a Robbys wrist brace or Ebonite Pro Form Positioner to help ou with the wrist problem.  It is going to give you much stability that you need.  As far as a new ball is concerned, I would go with something mid priced like an Anger by Hammer or a Gamebreaker by Ebonite.  Both of those will give you some help with hookability without having to try and force the issue.  Hope this helps.

The problem with buying a higher priced ball, is that most times it has more advanced core technology (asymmetrical)that requires a more consistent release, roll, etc...
More often than not, mid price technology (Anger, Gamebreaker are examples of some of the few) actually rolls the same if not better requiring less perfection.
If your lanes are truly slick, Hammer Anger, Ebonite Gamebreaker or Brunswick Blast Zone with Pin under bridge should provide you with an early controllable reaction.
If you want more mid-lane reaction, try a Black Widow (original), Vapor Zone or Hammer Blue Vibe (The Blue Vibe is the best ball at this price point, I have heard you can get them online for under 100 bucks.
