Don't know what ball to get
« on: April 25, 2005, 05:22:25 AM »
I have been bowling since last fall. I have been in the student league last semester and this semester, with only one week to go in this league. I want to get my own ball cause the house balls suck but I am not sure which to get. I throw a slight hook starting on the right side (last dot on the right on the floor). I don't know all the lingo but i figured some of you would have a few tips. Thanks for any suggestions! The lanes at Coachlite here in Rolla seem kind of dry compared to the Brunswick Zone back in the burbs of Chicago (actually alot drier) but I have one more semester of bowling league here till i graduate (so I might want to accomodate for a drier lane in a ball to get?)

ebonite ice or fire, storm big hit, brunswick power groove

i dont know of other companies, a lane #1 bullet or H20 would work too but the above would work just as well at your beginning level

IMO I'd start out with the Power Groove or Big Hit. If you can develop your style and hook, then move up to a more performance ball. Starting to high up the food chain, you can develop bad habits that are tough to get rid of later ..just my suggestion. Might even look at a used, but in good shape, ball to start with, cheaper and if you decide to step up later, not as much into it.

*UPDATE*
I just picked up a Mutant for free from a buddy of mine in town. I read some reviews on the ball and it sounds pretty good, but i need to get it drilled out for my huge fingers. It has a stabilizer hole in the side, so should I fill that in when I get it drilled or will it help my slight hook?

i would go for the Ice. Its a nice color going down, and it has the largest weight block for the money. Plus it wont lack in hitting power that a pankake weight block does.
Zantor, i would use that mutant...its too much of a ball to start off. I would recomend the ice, and then when u are ready drill up the mutant
