Measurements

I'm just starting out.

I use a Maxim with inserts, first week 190 top game.
I don't know my PAP, Revs, Axis tilt or anything else.

Is it worth knowing these or not?

This site has already been a great help in getting me started.

At this point, no, they're not. If you want to get better, you need to find a good local coach. Good execution is much more important than drilling knowledge. Ask good local bowlers who the best coaches are AND which are the best local drillers. Then practice! If  you decide you want to get serious, you may want to purchase an inexpensive urethane or resin ball.

Thanks,
I will have a look for coaches.

Know of any listings for the UK?

Nope, sorry. Usually best to ask local high average bowlers, several of them to get a consensus. (Note: just because a bowler has a high average does not mean he/she can be a good coach. That takes a special person.)

Learning the basics right from the beginning is a very important factor. If you develop bad habits they are VERY hard to break. Get a coach and, I would recommend video taping yourself periodically to assure that you arent developing any bad habits.
