Got my first reactive ball, no hook what happened?
« on: April 26, 2004, 01:33:47 AM »
Hello,

I had a post a while back about returning to the lanes after some time off. I ended up getting a Brunswick Power grove 14# finger tip drilled. The lanes I got it from were a lil to busy to watch me bowl, but listened to how I been bowling and put the pin next to my ring finger.

I have bowled 3 games now and the ball never hooks at all, I got it to kind of hook once if I slowed my speed way down. So now Im wondering if i described how I bowled wrong, and if the ball got drilled wrong or is this ball sposed to go straight.

Thanks,
Dennis

Uh, how do you bowl exactly?  Can't really tell you if I don't know that...Describe what you do when you release, and how the ball looks going down the lane...

everything at this point is a guess.

seek out a coach or two in you area and see what they can do for you.

Well I been lining up on the middle board, I use the markers on the lane to guide were I want to go, I take 2 steps start releasing the ball to me seems like I really torque it back  and slide and release. Seems to just skid down the lane occasionally wobbles. When it connects with the pins they do go flying, which is a lot more then I been able to do with my old Urethane ball. I guess I ultimately I do need a coach…

Thanks,
Dennis

That still isn't much to go on...what are you targeting?  When you say "lining up on middle board" do you mean your foot is on 20 or you are trying to throw the ball over the 4th arrow?

From what I recall of the Power Groove, it is a relatively mild ball that isn't going to move a whole lot, but should do fine for a down and in shot as long as there are some backends to work with...
