Calculate rev rate
« on: February 20, 2005, 02:15:44 PM »
Okay, I got some video of my release and tried to calculate my rev rate.  I cam up with approx 350, but apparently that is considered high.  I definately don't fell like I have high revs, so I figure I must have miscalculated.  I'm posting the video and opening myself to some feedback (constructive criticism please, no need to be cruel!  I already know I'm bad!)
Here is a video of one of my throws: http://www.dipspit.com/qstick777/throw2-1.avi

I've only been bowling for less than a year, and I recently dropped from 15 to 14lb (pain in my wrist and forearm). I'm really struggling with my game right now - nothing feels natural. My throws are pretty consistent (if I can find the line that works), but everything I throw feels ugly. I can't seem to get the free arm swing, and I have a hard time getting my thumb to exit first and get the extra lift from my fingers. I feel like I'm using a controlled arm swing (I don't even think I bring it back to waist level). I've tried to throw the ball faster and put more revs on it, but I don't have any accuracy.

Feel free to watch the video and let me know if I've miscalculated my rev rate, or make any suggestions. I know my approach and release look really bad, and I'm open to any suggestions to help improve my game. Thanks!

Thanks!  I thought 350 sounded high.  I tried counting by clicking 10 frames, but I wasn't sure I counted correctly.  I just got the camera, so that was the first attempt at recording video.  I'll try and get clearer video.

I wouldn't worry about your rev rate. You look pretty good at about 200 or more. I WOULD,however, worry about your approach. You are going to rip your knee out of the socket with those shoes. I should know I almost did it. If I were you, my next investment would be in a pair of either Dexter SST 4-6LX's or some ABS's because you could do serious damage and not even know it.

BrunswickJames -  Thanks!  I was just thinking that I might need a new pair.  I bowled 6 games on Friday, and my league on Sunday and the outside of my left thigh/hip was really starting to throb.  I always seem to have trouble sliding - not sure if its the approach or the shoes.  I'll look into some new shoes next!
