help me choose a new ball
« on: October 08, 2005, 12:46:13 PM »
Hello to everyone, I'm new to these boards.

Anyway, after 6 yrs of going through many wrists and leg surgeries im back to bowling wooooooot. So i got a ball just to start out with last year ( tornado tps) and its a good ball for a beginner, but i am more than ready to move on. My avg right now is 208, but i feel i can do a lot better if I get a ball that picks up stronger on the backend and has more hook. Im a right hander and our the lane conditions at our local house are are usually med dry - med oil. I throw from the middle arrow to the edge and let it come back.  The tps is just not cutting it anymore and im forced to move to the right.  Whats a good ball to step up to next?  Im looking at an absolute inferno, and even harder hooking balls like the hammer hawg and the xxxcel.  I dont know if i gave you enough info so just ask any questions.  ALso i need help on what kind of drilling i should have done.

Thanks in advance,

MIKE

i would say if you want some high performance stuff wait for another couple of weeks until everything new comes out and then weigh your options that way if you see something that u like at least you'll have a chance at getting it instead of buying now and then seeing something and then wanting and buying another ball. just  a thought.

well i would say if your lanes are med oil to med dry a xxxcel and hawg will more than likely be too strong. I would say think about a punisher(brunswick) detour(columbia, i love this ball), maybe an atomic charge(storm), big block diesel(hammer, i have one of these it's great), V2 Sweet(Ebonite). Im not exactly sure but these are jus some suggestions. Im sure somebody will come along and chop up every ball i just suggested you but these are just a thought.

with my limited amount of knowlege i believe the further the pin is away from the cg well how long the ball will go before it turns and starts to hook. I believe that's right.

My normal throw around avg maybe a little less. With my tornado it feels like i have to throw tons of revs way more than the avg person in my league

I'd suggest you take a look at these, for starters,

Ebonite:
V2 Sanded
V2 Power
Xcel Particle
XXcel ( might be to much)
Big Time Pearl

Hammer:
Switch Blade
VIBE

Storm:
Atomic Charge
Ragin' Banshee
Hybrid ( a great ball)
Fired Up

Columbia:
Dr Jekyll
Overdrive

Brunswick:
Zone Classic
Rampage
Punisher

Track:
Xception
Slash

There's a good list and all Just My Opinion, but maybe one in there will fit your needs and $'s...

Good Luck
