How many inches
« on: March 23, 2016, 01:30:45 PM »
Hello bowlers,
I won a bid on a dark legend for a great price. I took it to my nearest pro shop to have it drilled and the guy told me it has a bad pin. The pin is 2inches. I could not chat cause i was in a rush. I am sending the ball back for a full refund. What is the best pin inch? 3 inch-4inch,4inch-5inch? The box the dark legend came in says 2-3,which now I know is no good. Thank you for your time in advance.

I agree with what everyone else has said...find a different pro shop.  Your driller has his panties in a twist because you didn't buy the ball from him.

Surprised nobody has questioned the MB position. Maybe if the bowler is right handed and the cg is really out of line to the right or bowler originally asked for one of the drill patterns shown in the paper work that show pin up and the bowler has a span 4 1/2" or longer it might be impossible to drill without a large XH.
JUST SAYING

There's nothing wrong with the ball that's visible unless the mass bias is way off. A PSO that simply won't drill a ball not bought from their shop doesn't deserve your business. I understand a higher price for drilling a ball not bought from them but giving blatant misinformation is terrible business practice. Guaranteed he likely has a ball in his shop that has a very similar pin distance.
Speak to some people in your league or even on the forum about other drillers in your area. I drive an hour to see my guy despite there being about 10 shops closer as I'm comfortable with him and he's done wonders for my game after fixing balls with extremely stretched spans and zero pitch.

I would drill that.  Short pin does not allow certain drills put you certainly can make that happen.

I agree with this 100%.  I also drive an hour for both me and my son to the BowlerX brick and mortar shop.  I trust NO ONE who is more local  (okay maybe Gebhardts, but that is also an hour away).

I always look for pins of at least 3" only because I have a rather long span (about 5 or 5 1/8) (and a very high track).  But if I had this ball, I'm certain that Lee would be able to make it work for me, it would just limit options.

What is the best pin inch?

That is like the question what is the best size shoe?

It's the one that fits you, or in the case of pin inch, the one that fits your game.

The answer will be different for many people.
