Ball gets stuck in pit/return
« on: January 04, 2004, 07:33:03 PM »
I have a relatively old reactive ball. I bought it used. I was having problems occasionally with it getting stuck in the ball return and/or the pit. Other people bowling my lane had no problems, so I know it is my ball. The lane guy said I should have it resurfaced and that would solve the problem. I did as he advised, came back to bowl again and it got worse. Then I surmised that maybe my ball had been resurfaced so much that the circumference may be too small to work with the lane mechanism. The lane guy said that could be possible. I've been wiping my ball after every frame, and cleaning with alcohol after each trip to the lanes. If my theory is right, is there anything I can apply to my ball that will help, or should I just buy a new ball?

It's a Brunswick Burgundy Zone Reactive. It was one of the firwst resin balls from what I've been told. It's probably 8 years old or so. I've had it a year. The pro sold it to me for cost of re-drilling only.

I do realize the lanes have people to get my ball, but it gets stuck nearly every roll.

It gets stuck in both places. The serial numbers and insignia still have plenty of valley in them.
The lane guy jokingly said I should dump the ball in the trash.

By the way, I like the way the ball works.

I was told by a bowler on BR that SENIORS don't get too much oil because they use OLD balls that cause problems as you describe. I felt he gave me an excellent reason so I never complained again. When you bowl is their MED/HEAVY oil? If so THAT may be the problem!

Brunswick. It's a very good bowling center. Stoney Baker is the proprietor. They are always installing the newest equipment. The pinsetters are brand new on most of the lanes. However, I went to an old AMF house with weathered equipment yesterday, and got the same result. I'm just going to get a new ball. Thanks for all your help.
