Needing some advice.
« on: March 01, 2015, 08:35:04 AM »
I bowled on a league almost my entire childhood but then fatherhood and life got in the way. Now that my kids are all grown and gone I am looking to get back into a league or two. The problem is I was still using the LT48 that I bought when I was 16 (I am 44 now) and I was using a Brunswick Zone. Neither really fit me anymore so I gave them away. I have been looking at Hammers especially the Black Widow Assassin, Bad Ass and Bad Intentions.

My question is how do I know what I need after all this time and do I drill it pin up or pin down etc. I want to do this right and increase my average which was around 185 when I was last in a league about 15 years ago.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Find yourself a good reputable pro shop, If you let us know where your from some people on here can help. Start slow, most companies lower price point balls have excellent bang for your buck. I throw the the Brunswick families, and their "entry level" stuff is quite good. Don't be afraid to not purchase the latest greatest hook monster.

Most importantly welcome back to this crazy game we love.

I am in Sidney Ohio, I can tell you as far as my game goes I am a high speed (usually around 16-17 mph) medium rev bowler, I was using a 16lb ball but thinking I need to lower it to a 15lb

I'm not sure what you have in Sidney, but a short drive to Dayton will give you a choice of good pro shops.  Go talk to a few people and explain your situation.  When you find someone you are comfortable talking with ask them if you can make an appointment to come in so they can watch you bowl, make a ball recommendation and have the ball drilled.

The whole appointment thing isn't always necessary, they may say they have time right then.  But it lets them know you are serious, not just a tire kicker.

Dayton is hosting the state tourney this year. Usually pro shops in the area have additional specials during that time. The tournament is now underway so do some internet searches to be informed.
