New ball
« on: June 30, 2005, 08:34:55 PM »
I need a new heavy oil ball. Right now i am using a killer insinct as my heavy oil ball and that is just leaving me to many 10 pins since it comes in so late. i have about a 185-190 average with this ball but im feeling that its going to start going down because this ball is starting to lose its pop...it randomly hits real flat...so im looking for a heavy oil ball...help me with a couple suggestions on what kind of ball i should get and isnt to expensive...

Without knowing much info, I'd suggest you take a look at the following:

Hammer  Razor Blade / Saw Blade / Hawg

Ebonite  Xcel Particle / Big Time maybe Nitro/R

Storm  Vertigo / Ace / Trifecta

I don't know enough info to give you a ball idea, you need to do a bit of research on these and see which one you think fits you...or ask your pro shop guys, they can see you and suggest a ball or two.

Good and hope this helped.

Do you use a Killer Instinct Sanded or the Pearl? Well, maybe you should consider an oil extraction from your current ball, and some surface refurnishing (new polish after oil extraction or some wet sanding to open up tha surface again). Might bring back the old pop with a little investment and not an additional ball in the bag to haul around .

Either ask a pro shop for the service or do it yourself (see the Surface prep area for tips, the topic comes up every now and then).

From what you are saying, it sounds like your ball just needs a 'restore'. I'd ask some of the guys here that have used it, but I'd try CPR on your ball. It restores the hook, so to speak and it's a lot cheaper than buying a new ball.

I've used it on customers balls and they said it was like using the ball for the first time. There are several who have used it on here, ask some of them, again, just a suggestion.

Sometimes what looks to be heavy oil and the ball coming in behind the headpin is actually the ball burning up and not making it back to the pocket. The easiest way to tell is to watch the rotating ball and see if and when it starts to loose it's side rotation.

If the ball is loosing it's side rotation too soon, then shining the ball will be the cure to your problems. If the ball still has plenty of side rotation as it hits the pins, then try sanding the ball to 320.

Many bowlers don't know how to recognize carry down from burn out, and use a ball that is way too strong for the lane conditions which makes the ball burn up more and exaggerate the problem instead of solving it.
